With the all-in-one pledge level out now I was curious about the total miniature count (so I can buy enough color & brushes beforehand )

So for all miniature lovers interested (De Vermiis Mysteriis):

Total game monster count: 168

Total miniature count (monsters/gates/glaciers/AW/HPL/CollEditionFig...): 243

Total unique sculpts: 60

Edit: Kickstarter over, 2 new sculpts (Mystery GOO & Doom marker)

It will not include the display miniatures (collectibles), but it WILL include all of the 9 stretch goal GOOs. In other words, it will include ALL GOOs, but only one copy of each. The display/collectible ones are all second copies of them, which is why they are not "game related."

Does that make sense?

I believe this quote is wrong.

This is what sandy had to say:

Quote:
The small display miniatures are included!! You will get EVERY SINGLE THING that a CDG backer gets plus more.

The ONLY things you will not get are the t-shirt and the faction art prints (you WILL get the art prints of Asenath & HPL).

Cool.

//edit//

It's in the updated FAQ too:

Quote:
Do I receive all the stretch goals if I pledge at De Vermiis Mysteriis or Book of Eibon levels?

Yes!

Ugh... with my Early Bird I have pretty much everything except the HPL Figure, Dreamlands monsters, and the High Priest expansion. But for about $60 more I can get the DVM and have it all. That is a very hard choice!

for the record, I was only thinking about the collectible GOOs, not the free one at a time stretch goals minis based on backer numbers.

Since we're talking miniatures, I looked up other Cthulhu figures. So far, I'm only finding miniatures in metal, and they range from a sale price of $6 to $10 for a large miniature, such as a Nightgaunt. If we're looking at GOOs, Great Cthulhu goes for $40.

Reaper Bones Miniatures have plastic mythos monsters for $2.50 and up, but their selection is small. You can also get a *really* big Cthulhu "miniature" for $40.

I think one nice thing about the CW sculpts is a consistency in style. I've been collecting Cthulhu miniatures for 30+ years, and the result is more of a hodge-podge of different sculpts. I have a box of ten excellently sculpted Grenadier metal miniatures which I bought in 1980's for $20. With inflation, that set would cost $50+ today!

Something I'm not understanding is the cost of the molds for all these 59 different sculpts. I remember Sandy saying in an interview that each mold costs ~$30,000. Multiply that out by 59 individual sculpts and you get ~$1.7 million, well more than what the kickstarter covers. And that does nothing to cover any other costs involved. Are some molds more expensive than others and $30k is just a high-point? Or did Sandy get his #s wrong?

More than one model can be cast in a particular mold. If you've ever gotten a game or toy that had pieces still on the plastic sprue (frame), then that gives you an idea of what that mold produced.

Twilight Imperium Third Edition, for example, has several kinds of units, but each color's unit set is entirely contained on one sprue, so that's just one mold with (probably) multiple copies cast used to produce the units.

There are excellent videos and interviews discussing the expense and processes of turning A sculpt into a mold.

No no I meant it was about 30,000 for the tooling for the basic game sculpts. All of them. This is an estimate and might be off. We were at one point quoted 5,000 per sculpt for tooling but apparently this is a little high. On the other hand we have to actually produce the plastic figures, and they have a great deal of plastic in them. Plus there are like 5-6 die-cut punchboards, the two big maps, etc. etc.

But no it is not $30,000 per figure, and if I actually said that I misspoke.

I probably misunderstood it from the Paul of Cthulhu interview, I just heard $30k and leapt on that. I knew I was missing something and it seemed like a huge number to be per figure. Also, the initial $40,000 goal couldn't possibly have covered the game if that were the case.

I'm curious, now that the kickstarter is winding down, what had your projections been as far as how well the KS would do? Obviously, the ideas/artwork for the expansions were already there in the backpocket ready to go, but was there a timetable for their release if they didn't get funded from the KS itself? Or was it more that whatever didn't happen with the KS wasn't going to happen?
