I started playing games on boardgame arena and am wondering if I should record the plays. I like to reflect on some of the plays, but I wonder if its right. I also wonder if it hurts the overall game stats having online game plays recorded. What do you think?

Depends on what you want to track for yourself.

I play lots of Race for the Galaxy on a computer against AI, but I don't record it.

I occasionally play BSG on vassal & skype, and those I record. My reasoning for that is that I'm still playing the game with other people; we're just substituting a virtual board for a physical one.

No!

There are strict rules against this sort of behavior! If you record online plays the entire system collapses and becomes a sort of post-apocalyptic game zone where people record plays whenever they so much as look at a picture of a board game. It's a slippery slop into madness. Don't do it!!!!

I record my pbf plays. But those end up taking 4-5 months to play so I don't really feel guilty about it.

Quite simply it just comes down to what you want recorded for yourself. Some record online plays. Some don't. Neither is wrong or right.

I record all digital and on-line plays ONLY if against humans. Other than the medium, it's not different than playing in-person and shouldn't be discounted.

I do not count plays vs AI, though.

I never record online plays - somehow playing online never feels quite the same as with a board, so it feels wrong somehow. Equally, I play lots of games against AI, and I would never record them.

I only record Face to Face plays.

(and only do expansions at 0.1 plays so that they don't show up in my total games played, but show up on lists and images)

I always record online plays, but I also only play War of the Ring online. I'm spending 2+ hours playing a game and having a conversation with a real life person, so I feel like that is worth recording. I play a few other games against AI, but would never record those.

I record all plays against a real person (no AI games).

Personally, I only record a play if the game is physically set up in front of me.

Same here, only games against humans, face to face or online. Oddly though I don't record plays on our idevices. Also, I have lumped all my online plays for each game under one undated listing.
