So earlier this week my copy of Combat Commander: Battle Pack #5 – Fall of the West arrived at my doorstep. I opened the package, pulled the contents out of the ziplock bag, and looked it over, rifling through the maps and scenarios. Cool -- looking forward to this! Still, somehow I felt vaguely dissatisfied that I did not get to do any counter clipping. So then back into the ziplock, and...wait a minute. The game folder didn't fit in the ziplock. Too big...can't zip the lock. Ah, well -- no biggie. Off to wash my hands a couple times before bed, then to dreamland.

That night, I dreamt me some tremulous dreams. Woke up in the dead of night, thinking about my poor new game, lying partially exposed in an open ziplock bag. No -- that can't be what woke me up. Must be all the crazy issues going on at work. Back to sleep.

Next day at work, periodic thoughts jumped into my head about that new battle pack, and what the squalid atmosphere in my house must be doing to it already. I could practically feel the paper deteriorating and discoloring. There must be a solution...

At home, spent a fair amount of time flipping through magazines in bags, trying to find a swap that wouldn't result in just putting a different treasure at risk. Finally I found the solution -- the mounted board I got for Empire of the Sun, snug and safe in the game box now, had come in a large ziplock. Checked, and there it was -- the solution to my problem. Eased that ziplock from the mounted board onto the battle pack. Voila! I had stopped the painful slow deterioration and death that my new battle pack would surely have undergone. Slept like a baby the rest of the week.

So after relating all that, my question to this group of expert kindred spirits is...do you think that mounted board is going to be OK in the Empire of the Sun box, or should I go find me a roll of extra large ziplocks to protect it?

What? You didn't smell each content of the game as you fondled it after opening and taking them out? If you don't smell your new games when opening your not quite OCD enough.

Sounds to me like you get to clip the folder instead.

The inside of your Empire of the Sun box is crawling with these:

Too small to be seen by the naked eye, their diet consists entirely of cardboard.

Crawling. With. Them.

There must be a reason why the large ziplock came with the board.
the air in the house unusually dry lately?
Must be the board soaking up all that moisture! wow

That's not OCD. That condition is being a Wargamer. Our meds come in the form of cardboard boxed(and occasionally plastic-sleeved) contained items; lead, resin and plastic unexplainables.

No safer place to be when the balloon goes up than on a US SSN.

And no creepy buggies, either.

Semi-serious related question: Am I the only one alarmed by the prospect of storing his games in the vertical, bookcase style? Seems like a recipe for warped mapsheets and player aid cards. (And unpunched countersheets -- not that I haven't punched and played all of my games countless times already ... whistle )

Careful ... the answer to that question and to which will be more rewarding might not be the same thing!

Am I the only one who is surprised that you washed your hands AFTER you handled the game?!?! Only you know where your hands have been before handling the game, but I think your game is ruined forever.
