Space: 1999?
(Though this is described as "basically Chinese Checkers," so probably not...)

You could try an advanced search. There are options for Sci Fi and Space Explore and Dice Rolling--but be warned that not all games have all the info. While you might recall dice the users might not have included that info in the game entry. Publication year might be a good filter to use. Not all Space Explore games are Sci Fi games so don't select both at the same time, you might want to do two separate searches

The button is in yellow writing next to the search button where lots of people forget about it for some reason. Most of the games from that era have more than just a cover picture if the name doesn't jog your memory.

Edit: typo

In the original thread I already researched all 234 science fiction games present in the BGG databse that were released between the dawn of gaming and 1979.

I've high lighted the term you want to get rid of then. Space Hop has sci fi elements but it doesn't appear if you search for sci fi.
