Fury of Dracula first evidenced: February 19, 2006

The players:

Craig as Dracula: Having played the game the previous day at our local game shop, he happily volunteered to wander Europe as the bloodthirsty count. As has become typical with our group, he was also our esteemed host.

Alex as Lord Godalming: Having played/owns Scotland Yard, so he got the mechanics down pretty quickly. His luck just wasn’t that great. Almost all of his events were boons for Dracula. The running joke soon became, “Would you like to give Dracula an event, Lord Godalming?”

Skip as Dr. Seward: Arrived a little late with his wife, Ivy, who opted to do schoolwork instead of playing Mina. This was the first time Skip played a cooperative game.

April as Van Helsing: Arriving first has its advantages – like picking your hunter first. A Scotland Yard fan and recently into vampire themes (role playing, novels, movies, etc).

Will as Mina Harker: Mina was actually played by Alex, Skip, and April for 2/3 of the game – as he was just a little late arriving. He caught on fast, but did see a lot of action, as he spent nearly every turn in the ocean, heading for the British Isles from the Mediterranean.

We each selected a city to begin our journeys by scattering throughout Europe. Lord Godalming began in far Eastern Europe, Dr. Seward began in Central Europe, Van Helsing started in Spain, and Mina began her travels in the British Isles. Dracula slinked into the first city undetected, and for a while that first day, it seemed that we would not ever locate him. Once he began traveling by sea, we started to home in on his location. Just after Mina moved to the English Channel, we figured out that Dracula had been traveling from Ireland to the Mediterranean coast. All four hunters converged upon the area and headed the French Rivera. After a brief skirmish between Dracula and Lord Godalming, Dracula slipped away. Precious hours slipped by, as Dracula managed to turn vampires much too quickly. Van Helsing tried five different times to rid Europe of the evil scourge, but only succeeded once. He did make more progress in sucking the life’s blood from Dracula, however, and between that and the many sea voyages the hunters forced him to take, he was soon clinging to his last few drops of blood.

Dracula was cornered a second time along the Spanish Mediterranean, where we consecrated the ground of the city in which he had been feeding and hiding. We could hear clearly from France Dracula’s grumbles about having to take another sea voyage! We quickly determined that Dracula had returned to the scene of his previous crimes – the British Isles. Van Helsing was the hunter closest to the English Channel. The other three hunters were several seas away and had to slowly sail toward England. Time was running short, as Dracula had managed to turn four vampires while we wandered around. Van Helsing crossed the English Channel and began tracking Dracula through the larger British Isle. Despite Dracula’s best efforts to thwart Van Helsing’s searches for him, he was soon cornered in Manchester. How sad for Dracula that he was found cowering in such an ugly, dirty city with so few drops of blood left. Van Helsing quickly rid Dracula of his remaining blood and saved Europe from the terrible vampiric affliction.

It would have been worse had I not been able to mature my first vampire that I created in Galway. shake

If you are talking about maturing vampires, they do give 2 points each to Dracula which in this case would be 8 points, 2 over the 6 needed to win.

Good catch. He had turned one vampire, the other points were from new days. I did manage to knock him down a bit, too.
