For 3-5 Players Just use the Eastern (original) Board. Also add a Pottery resource on Crete. (To make this commodity available. For those geographically challenged, Knossos is on Crete). Play with all counters (cities caravans etc)

3 Players................Greece, Babylon & Egypt. Province west of Cyrene is in play (to allow Fruit) Western Provinces (ie all of Rome's Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Carthage and the provinces west and south of Carthage are out. Note that both Danube Provinces (the two provinces most North in Europe are IN)

Comment. All 13 resources are available. 27 resource spaces available. 14 city sites available.

4 Players................Greece, Rome, Babylon & Egypt. All provinces in play. Carthage sets up as per neutral power rules in rulebook.

5 Players................Carthage, Greece, Rome, Babylon & Egypt. All provinces in play.

Should see a bit of combat with everyone always op top of one another!

Why Pyramids only? I mean its a good option if you want a long game, but...

also, are you saying Pyramids=13?

Hi Phillip. Because we haven't reduced the amount of Cities and caravans available to the players. Rather we've made sure that they set up next to each other.

In this context getting a set of 9 is quite easy, it will be a set of 12 (or 13 if you play the pyramids that way) for the win.

Intention of the variants was to increase conflict and allow a few good battles before we find who has the upper hand. I think play time would be 3 hours maybe 4.
