My copy of Ra is on it's way from Timewellspent.org and should arrive tomorrow.

Is this *the* two-player variant that everyone says is so good?

I have become my own island state. A ravaged, war-torn land where nothing grows and the horizons are bleak.

This is the 2er I played and I thought it worked very well. There is no doubt the game is better with more, but that 2er version is fun in its own right.

My wife and I tried out that two-player variant before we tried it with more, and it didn't exactly thrill. I think with fewer players, there's potentially less variety in the play. We've since played it with more and had more fun with it. We might try it 2-player again -- might be more fun now that we understand the strategies better -- but I think it will always be better with more.

That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

This is how we play it - a nice, short game.

We play only 6 RA tiles per epoch, though .... much more tense.

My wife and I played Ra 2-player tonight for the first time using the variant described in the link above (7 Ra tiles per epoch.)

Very nice! Lots more scoring as would be expected when only 2 players divvy up the booty. I did really well with monuments; she tore up civilization and river tile scoring.

I was bested 90-80 however.

My wife and I have now played this 2 player variant several times, and it does indeed work well.

Thanks

Shouldn't the sun tile distribution be like in the Razzia 2p-game?
2,5,6,9 and 3,4,7,8 ?
It is more balanced. Everyone can win 2 Auctions in the first epoch.
Other than the distribution stated in the 2-player variant thread:
one player 2-4-6-9 and the other 3-5-7-8 which will be an advantage for the second player, he can beat player one 3 times!

I think the issue is that having the highest sun is slightly more valuable. So they are adjusted accordingly.
