I'm guessing that "Indian country" means something different in Scotland than in the USA? Because it is quite impolite in modern America to refer to the natives of this continent as Indians.

"Indian Country" is the term that many of the American soldiers in Vietnam referred to enemy territory.

Yep, the term was one used by the US soldiers in Vietnam - which is why I've used it.

I am aware that the natives of America are referred to / refer to themselves as "Native Americans", so sbsolutely no offence intended.

Oh, sure, I didn't think you were trying to be offensive. I just wasn't certain what India or Native American territory had to do with the conflict in Vietnam. Now I know!

No worries at all :-)

It's good that you've mentioned this actually as it shows I need to be careful not to use too much of the Vietnam slang without explanation.

Cheers.

Here are some of my initial cards for the game - please note that there is still additional text to go on most of these...

some of the unit

Nice looking cards but they are going to hammer our ink cartridges. I would suggest that you use a horizontal stripe containing the card back image instead of going for full coverage. I guess there are many ways of showing the card types without going for full ink coverage. The font doesn't really match the style or feeling of the game, imo.

Thanks for the feedback

Don't worry, I am planning on doing an 'ink cartridge friendly' version of this as well - which will be grey scale / image minimal.

I have zero artistic ability of my own so I'm using http://cardcreator.personalisedplayingcards.com/ to create the cards (it allows me to add my own images and text to a card template) - but unfortunately that means I'm limited in my font choice

Look at using something like paint.net for your cards. It is a basic but powerful package which is ideal for card images. To make cards you just need to draw some boxes and put text. I'd say that it's totally worth making the effort to learn some basic layout skills as it will hugely open up your design possibilities.

I actually like the font. Looks like early 90's computer games font seen in many (war)games of that era. Or similar enough (I'm no good at fonts).

Agreeing about low-ink version, but I always say that. Cards without backgrounds to get as much white as possible. I like the amount of ink my printer uses when it prints white.

Look forward to this game!

Yeah, I know that :-)

Been reading a book all about LRRP's and that was one of the first things I realised. The art on the cards has already been amended accordingly :-)

Not sure this will be finished in time for the contest anyway, but thanks for the interest and feedback.

I am just now looking at your WIP thread for the first time. First off I want to say that the idea is very interesting!

Looking forward to see more progress on this, even if you don't finish before the deadline.

The entry deadline for the 2013 Solitaire Print and Play Contest is Midnight (MST) October 5th. Will this game be complete by that time? If not, the game will be removed from the entry list but will be eligible to be entered in next year's contest.

Thanks! I hope to see more about this game soon!
