Great games need a special edition. So here’s my visualisation of what I’d like a Deluxe Hanabi to be. Yes, I know there are only three suits shown here, but I hope you get the general idea and will forgive that.

Consider the following advantages of my proposal:

· Stylish luxury item with beautiful, tactile pieces
· Comes in an attractive box too
· Would make a lovely Christmas present
· Highly desirable
· No sleeving necessary
· Keeps your hands free
· Satisfies the “I need card stands” brigade
· Resistant to spilled drinks and greasy food
· No creasing, in fact indestructible
· Shuffling becomes a shared, cooperative experience
· Easier to point out clues
· No more bad decks, just bad tile picks

Please Monsieur Bauza, I would really like to be able to buy a set like this.

Way to make a challenge sound like a bonus. Well played. Clearly, my favorite line!

You really need to be a Mah Jong player, to appreciate the many joys of tile shuffling.

That would be pretty sweet. I am thinking there might be a way to modify a set (or two) of Mahjong tiles to this end (or maybe two sets of the same size and back type but with differently styled suits?).

Of course, I also have a big box of dominoes that I had planned to mock something else up with...

I don't like my other idea, it wasn't fun the first time around.

Warlord beats Troll, Troll beats Elf, Elf beats Water Sprite, and basically everything else beats Enchanted Bunny.

This looks awesome.

However, if you'd really produce stones like that, players need to be careful to only pick them up by the sides so that they don't actually feel the number on it (at least they look embossed).

But still, they do look awesome.

You are right, so we should mention that in the rules.

Great idea. I can already imagine the loud clacking sound as tiles are discarded/thrown into the middle of the table mahjong-style or played into the sequence with a loud "Chow!".

My cousin's grandpa could tell the tiles while playing just by feel. He would also play MJ without sorting tiles at all.

(He was a sea captain so I suspect he had a reasonable amount of free time on his hands)

And then, we just have to wait for people to show up who tell us that they can tell the numbers apart by weight

(Which reminds me: Does anyone else have differently dark card backs in the ABACUS version? I know that there are several cards of different colors and numbers, but I didn't dare to check exactly because I am afraid that I might find out there's a system and then I have hidden information I can't ignore in my next game...)

I won't be satisfied without a Deluxe Deluxe Hanabi edition, with automatic shuffling Hanabi table.

This - and lower production costs would make me consider stickers. Even though I dislike stickers.

I actually had this same/similar idea. I couldn't find a cheap way to buy/make the tiles, though, so I ended making them out of wood (which still ended up being super expensive). I also ended up doing a sketch-comedy-show retheme since it was a wedding gift for my sister (who is an actress/writer on the show Studio C).

I'd still like to buy a real set of mah jong Hanabi tiles, though. zombie

To minimize the amount of wear & tear on the faces of the tiles during "shuffling", it might be a good idea to recess the faces of the tiles.
