Given that decks from different genres can be mixed, can there ever be a situation in the game where two Time Line Cards show the same date and, if so, how is this handled in gameplay?

If you put a card down and it matches the card that is either to the left or right, it counts as correct placement.

I believe it's mentioned in the rules or a FAQ somewhere: if you have two cards with the same year then placing it either before or after the currently placed card of the same year is considered a 'correct' placement.

(Even though you could outside the card placement argue one event did occur earlier in said year.)

So if a card with the year 1956 is already in the timeline and you have a card in your hand that you correctly believe is also a 1956 event, then you may place it directly on either side of the current card and be successful.
