I was playing with my gf. She gets 6 every freaking time is annoying. She has had this "luck" for the last 3 games. Is there a special way to throw dices to get the number that you want?

My cousin came over for a Catan: Cities and Knights showdown and he busted that out. Definitely more leery about dice games after seeing those falling sixes haha.

You should quit playing Catan with him/her and head to Vegas.

Yes. It tends to require extensive practice and rather notable skill.

There are various YouTube videos showing the techniques for rolling the numbers you want on dice, used by professional gamblers to try and cheat the system in Casinos.

I doubt many gamers have put in the time needed to develop these techniques, but use a dice cup or shaker if you have suspicions of any unfair advantage.

It's all in the wrist: kind of a downward-spin throw. It's a technique that is quite difficult to master. However, I think that if you spend 30 minutes a day practicing, you should be able to get it in several months.

No tricks, let them fall as they may. I would rather influence the game by whatever game skill I possess (if any).

Well I'd say that letting go of them is the most pivotal element whistle

Test
Get yourself a dice tower if you want to eliminate this problem. I'll be honest, I think the only 'technique' is to slide the dice, rather than roll them.

Exactly this. It's not 100% reliable but with either one or two d6's I can roll the dice in my favour. If you are concerned someone is cheating (Which is what that would be), introducing a dice tower, dice cup, different rolling surfaces or something similar removes any chance of manipulating the dice by the way they are rolled.

However, saying that, some people just roll lucky dice, or unlucky dice at times.

The higher dice are also a lot trickier to roll determine on.

At the end of the day it's great to be able to blame losing on the dice, so do you really want to mess with it.

I mean, at one point shed had to roll 3 dice at the same time. She got 3 - 6. What are the odds of that?

1 in 216, with fair dice thrown fairly.

Yer but odds and limited dice rolls don't necessarily have the correlation we would hope.

Just because I can flip ten heads in a row on a coin or roll five 6's in a row on a dice, doesn't mean those results are more likely to occur over a million rolls or flips.

There's a reason you see so many flippant comments about luck of the dice or dice gods etc.

Oh and yes I've lost a lot of games, purely because of unfavourable dice rolls. Play enough though and eventually you'll win simple because of the dice rolls. Although I think some Euro gamer centric people will argue this is why you don't play games with dice.

They(???) say that if you stand on one foot while wearing a cowboy's hat, doctor's clothes and whistling old jazz tunes, you could roll anything from 1 to 6.

Also there is a slight chance that people will let you re-roll until you get the numbers you want since it is hard to go against someone like that.

The tecnique would be....shake twice, then throw the dice viciously on the table from a range of 6 feet.

This. A friend of mine has a knack for "rolling" the dice where they had half revolutions and destroyed us in Axis and Allies with many, many, 1s. Now in all games, we force a dice tower on him, to his dismay, however seemed to correct the issue with his lucky rolls.

Check out this hilarious/awesome short docudrama about a real-life Vegas craps "advantage player" and his special technique for setting die roles, no "cheating" involved (i.e. no fixed dice):

When you pick up the dice be sure to place the die you want to affect in the crook where your thumb meets the rest of your hand with the desired number facing the skin. Now close your thumb into your hand locking that die into place. Shake your hand as normal. Release the dice with your hand low to the table and at the last moment open your thumb releasing your locked die (you'll have to practice this part to get the timing right). Finally, and this is really the most important part... the die you're influencing will land on the table with only a slight roll, which happens quickly, so it's important to pick it up and turn it to the desired number before anyone notices. A loud shriek will often help at this point.

One way is to use a D6 that I possess which has six spots on each face

1d6 = (4) = 4 -- oops, wrong dice

If you are not getting the results you want, I suggest a strong overhand throw, aimed at the nearest open window.
