Hello CoH Community,
Fall is right around the corner and the Schenectady Wargamers Association (www.swa-gaming.org )is happy to announce that we will be sponsoring a weekend-long Conflict of Heroes tournament at Council of Five Nations XXXVI, this coming October 11-13, 2013.
The SWA is very excited to be hosting one of the first dedicated Conflict of Heroes tournaments in existence. We have a very active CoH group at the SWA; we have met for several years bi-weekly to play, and we have been running CoH events at conventions around the Northeastern USA.
We are announcing this now because we'd like to start getting all you CoH fans excited about attending. It is not too early to start planning your trip to Schenectady, NY in October.
Suggestion: Put in the request for vacation time off soon, like this week!
Academy Games has just confirmed they will be officially sponsoring this tournament with prize and promotion support. We aren't allowed to say what they have promised as the grand prize, but believe us when we say it will be good!
We do not yet have all of details finalized, but here are some things we do know at this time:
1.) CoH games will run all weekend, Friday through Sunday.
- We will offer "warm-up" games on Friday morning and afternoon.
- The official tournament games will be played Friday night through Saturday night, four rounds of Swiss scoring.
- The top two players, determined by Swiss points, will play for the title on Sunday morning.
- Players who do not make the top two will be able to play in the same scenario used for the championship game.
2.) You do not need to play every round in order to qualify (though it will help your overall score). Our scoring system will account for players who need to miss a round or two.
3.) We will be using a mix of published scenarios and new scenarios custom designed for this tournament.
4.) We will be offering some excellent prizes, courtesy of Academy Games.
We will fill in a lot more details over the next month or two.
If you are planning on coming, or even just thinking about it, please post in the Official Tournament Thread (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/970839/coh-tournament-at-cou...) with a status of "Committed", "Probable", or "Maybe". Seeing you commit will inspire others to get on board too. So far, we have nearly a dozen confirmed participants.
With this being our first effort, we think 16 tournament attendees is a good goal. 32 would be great, and we will make room if we get even more. Uwe says he has thousands on his email list, so we know a great turnout is within the realm of possibility.
We hope to see many of you at Council this coming October 11-13. If you are going with friends who may not like wargames as much as you do we will have lots of other great games and RPG events running all weekend. So, drag 'em along and they will have a great time. Or, show them how easy CoH is to pick up and have them enter into the tournament too! Check the SWA website (www.swa-gaming.org/Council) for our full line up of gaming events.
Because there are so many different CoH games in the ever-expanding CoH universe, to post news and updates of the tournament in every BGG listing would result in half-a-dozen different conversations, many with the same questions, cool announcements, handy information, etc. As such, here again is the link to the Official Tournament Thread: (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/970839/coh-tournament-at-cou...) "Subscribe" to it to be alerted to the latest and greatest new about the tournament!
Some Info about Us:
Council of Five Nations is one of the oldest gaming conventions in the United States. This will be our 36th Council, which puts us up in the range of Origins and GenCon. Council prides itself in hosting a good balance of Board games, RPGs, Miniatures & other stuff. We also have a strong "quality over quantity" philosophy. Last year's convention drew about 300 attendees, and we are expanding our square footage by over 50% this year to accommodate growth.
Council of Five Nations is hosted by the Proctors Theatre and Convention Center, located in Schenectady, New York. Schenectady is:
- 3 hours north of New York City
- 3 hours west of Boston
- 4 hours east of Buffalo
- 5 hours south of Montreal.
Council also hosts the largest FtF Star Fleet Battles tournament in the whole world. Players from around the country, and even from overseas, attend our SFB tournament every year. If they can make the trip, we figure many in the Conflict of Heroes community will be interested as well.
