I'm a big comedy genre fan. Movies and Series. I'm always looking for something that I might have missed, or is a hidden gem.

Here is a taste of my sense of humor.

Seinfeld is my all time favorite comedy series. I also love Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Parks and Recreation, Community and It's always Sunny in Philadelphia. Those are my 2-6 top comedy series, not necessarily in that order.

As for movies. It's hard to choose my favorite. These are among my favorite though: Spaceballs, Robinhood Men in Tights, Princess Bride, Bridesmaids, Monte Python and the Holy Griail, Hot Shots!, Dodgeball, Anchorman, Step Brothers. There are more, but they're pretty much in that same vain as I've listed.

Are there any comedies that you might recommend? (Series or movie)

30 Rock (similar to Community I'd say)
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law is a cartoon series based off of pretty clever wordplay and off-the-wallness
Venture Brothers is another animated series that you might enjoy
Corner Gas is a Canadian comedy series that might be worth tracking down; it's got a Seinfeld vibe to it

Yes 30 Rock is another favorite of mine. Can't believe I forgot about that one. I haven't seen the other 3 though. I'll check them out. Thanks.

Don't Trust The Bitch in Apartment 23. Brilliantly though erratically funny and now sadly cancelled, and rarely listed with it's full unbowderlised title. Sex and The City via Police Squad.

FIRST watch the Marx Brothers classic A Night At The Opera.

THEN and only then, you are qualified to watch the Zucker Brothers homage to it, a brilliant little movie named Brain Donors. (You can also watch anything else by the Zucker Brothers -- Police Squad may be the best comedy series ever -- but Brain Donors requires knowledge of ANatO to appreciate.)

Given that smke people have put more then one choice down I assumed the OP was not asking about the best comedy ever made, but just what we think are among the best comedies, and yes I happen to think it was.

I laugh my ass off every time I watch The Castle.

It could just be me but even after ten times the same lines still get me.

It is a tough one to find as a rental, perhaps.
My other favorite movies are Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and (in Italian) Johnny Stecchino.

I also highly recommend Flight of the Conchords, for a (now on DVD) TV series.

Yes I have seen both of those movies. They are great.

A lot of responses. Thanks guys.

I haven't seen anyone suggest the shows Peep Show or Trailer Park Boys. I would highly recommend those to anyone looking for a comedy series.

I think in terms of sheer density of laughter it evoked in me over the course of a film the three that are on top are:

Blues Brothers
The Burbs
Team America

The Burbs was probably a bit more restrained, but I just enjoyed all of the characters thoroughly, and in particular Tom Hank's exasperation throughout. I enjoy seeing characters exasperated.

The Blues Brothers has this unique attitude which rolls through the whole film, but it's the final section of the movie which just keeps building and building. When I was a kind a saw it I just rolled with peals of laughter as the absurdity just kept escalating. In some ways I think it would be even more enjoyable today since all of that were real action shots, whereas today everything would have been limp CGI.

Team America was just plain funny in so many parts but I was just losing my breath from laughter during the sex scene. Just like in Blues Brothers, the sequence just keeps building and pushing past expectations. I think it also just stands out for me because I saw it in a packed theater and having hundreds of other people in a similar state, nearly choking, or crying from laughter all at the same time was just awesome.

As for unintentionally funny, I'd go with No Retreat, No Surrender. It's a classic "so bad, it's good" movie. It should be noted that this is not a Van Damme movie. He's in it, but he's just the boss battle dude for the star of the film.

"Better Off Ted" was a quirky, strange, loopy-silly comedy show that is available on Netflix streaming. That show consistently cracks me up. In fact, here's a great example of some of the dialogue from the show:
