Does anyone know if there will be new maps coming out for Power Grid? Or other expansions?

Isn't next year, the 10 year anniversary?

There's been an expansion every year:
2005: France / Italy
2006: Benelux / Central Europe
2007: New Power Plant Cards
2008: China / Korea
2009: Brazil / Spain & Portugal
2010: Russia / Japan
2011: The Robots
2012: Northern Europe / UK & Ireland

2012 also saw the Québec / Baden-Württemberg boards, but these were only new in English, having previously appeared in French and German versions of the game respectively.

I think it's a fair bet that there'll be expansions this year and next, though whether there'll be anything special for the 10th anniversiary, who knows?

So, given that list, where are the obvious gaps?

India
South Africa
Australia
New Zealand
perhaps SE Europe
Eastern Mediterranean would be interesting, but probably too fraught politically

could be rescaled to some major cities: London, NY, Paris - or maybe more interestingly some of the 3rd world megacities.

A science fiction or fantasy setting (probably not Ankh Morpork, however)

but do any of these really excite?

Mexico also seems to be a notable omission, also some of the other South American countries.

I think we see a Australia/New Zealand one before too long.

India would probably be next followed by South Africa if I had to place an order on these.

I'd still like to see a modular board, ala Atolla Modulis (fan expansion for Funkenschlag), but official. Ideally, it would also have variable resource tables.

You all realize that pretty much all of the existing expansion maps were tied to Power Grid being licensed to a new territory, right?

That doesn't preclude branching out in the future, but it does provide a pretty clear roadmap...

Sigh.

Was there an edition of Power Grid released by an Australian game company?

Now I'm curious about three things.

1) what was the game company that released the game in China and Korea, and what about the clumps of countries, like Northern Europe and Benelux?

My BGG-fu is strong today. All within a click or two of this page. ninja

Here's the list of publishers.

2F-Spiele - Germany
999 Games - Benelux
Albi - Probably Central Europe
Arclight - Japan
Brain Games - Northern Europe
Edge Entertainment - Spain
Hobby World - Russia
Ideal Board Games - Romania
Korea Boardgames - Korea (duh)
Lacerta - Central Europe?
Lautapelit.fi - Northern Europe
Rio Grande Games - USA
Runadrake - Portugal (maybe Brazil on language)
Smart Ltd - Russia (now part of Hobby World)
Stratelibri - Italy
Swan Panasia Co., Ltd. - China

Does the UK fall under Rio Grande Games? Language wise it does...

Team D20 wrote:
2) What game companies in Australia could release it?
Two I could think of, one has done printing in the past and the other under license.

Team D20 wrote:
3) What countries have picked the game up that haven't been released?
Based on the above maybe Romania, but then it has been a while since I played the Central Europe map, so maybe not.

Thanks for the info Karlsen. It sounds like the question on the future of Power Grid may then be one of whether or not maps will be made for regions where there are no publishers. For instance, if nobody ever picks up the game in India, will that stop Mr. Friese from making a map of that country? Same question with Australia.

Seems like rzaba is going to be waiting some time for his Moon or Planets maps. My Outpost factories can produce Water, Titanium, New Chemicals and many other goodies, buy I don't have a Game Board factory.

An Australia map is available in the Files section for Print and Play. Very new, with no playtesting done when uploaded.

Well, if Rio Grande covers the UK (they kind of do, in that their games are sold here!), doesn't it cover Australia as well? And New Zealand too -- and indeed Canada?

There you are then, that's my hypothesis; the next expansion will be Aus/NZ on one side, and Canadiana on the other!

Quebec has been done, but English speaking Canadia does fit with your theory.

Duh, of course it has! blush I forgot because it's not one of the "regular" yearly expansions, and so not mentioned in Bagpuss42's list near the top of this thread...

OK, where else are Rio Grande's games distributed? India, maybe? South Africa?

(I'd say they're pretty good bets, actually, assuming Rio Grande are indeed distributed there.)

But it's also possible that this year's expansion, like The Robots or the new Power Plant cards, won't be new maps at all, but something completely different...

MAybe the new release could be a really big and really strong box so everything in the game could fit in 1 box.

It would have to be a really big box! I think I will be hitting four boxes this year.

How can power grid feature India as a map when there is no electricity here in half the places whistle

Besides paying for power plants , and resources , you would have to also give 80% of your money to politicians , then role a random dice to decide which players power plant will work this turn

Well, I guess this is where Power Grid comes into play (pun wasn't intended, but there you go). Why build power plants in Germany where there is electricity already? To me, India would make perfect sense whistle

I would be really happy with a second collector box. Maybe I would add some sort of event deck, like some of the promos that have already been released, just to spice things up a bit.

If Power Grid can bring electricity to North Korea they can bring it anywhere.
