Every weapon with range A has a dual mode: direct and indirect (always with a range from 4 to U).
The indirect need an unit with artillery strike: you activate the unit with artillery stike and declare to use its ability as 1 of the 2 actions, they activate the unit with the A wepaon (that isn't activated yet in this turn) and that unit can fire its indirect weapon to the target in los of the artillery strike unit. After that the unit with A weapon is activated _(you can't use for the rest of the turn) and you can continue with the artillery strike unit.
The direct mode is the same as all the weapons: it needs the LOS of the model with the A weapon and always in the range of 4-U

The steel rain has an A weapon but in addition has a particular mode: you have to chose how many ammo to use , but when they are all gone you can't use that weapon for the rest of the game (direct or indirect). The petard weapon isn't an A weapon so it uses the same rules of all the other weapons (it doesn't need any observer los, but has to reaload after any use)

Arc weapons have no relation to artillery strike whatsoever. They are only fired just like any weapon, but with a range limitation.
