At the moment, there are three monsters in Opener of the Way. These are Mutants, Abominations, and ... a Terrible Thing. I have tried different names for the Terrible Thing but they seem a bit awkward. So, feeling I had good luck with my previous poll, I throw it out to the Geek. Here is my explanation:

Child of Yog-Sothoth - seems kind of bland.
Son of Yog-Sothoth - do they really have gender?
Spawn of Yog-Sothoth - kind of overlaps with the Sleeper monster "Formless Spawn".
Horror - the idea here is that it resonates with "Dunwich Horror", which is an example of this monster. On the other hand ... well you know.

Poll
What should the most powerful monster in the Opener of the Way faction be named?
Child of Yog-Sothoth
Son of Yog-Sothoth
Spawn of Yog-Sothoth
Horror

I feel this monster should be as unique as the unit in the Itahque faction.

The Horror of Yog-Sothoth...?

I like it because it has multiple levels: a paronomasia:
1) The existential Dread of the knowledg that Yog-Sothoth exists...
2) The raw terror of experiencing a fragment of that Reality
3) This entity Here, immediately in front of Us, devouring our Very ....ayieee! ... جيء الشذاذي ...

“The horror..! The horror...!”
{Marlow blows out the candle and tries to act as though nothing has happened...}

Spawn of Yog-Sothoth has kind of stuck, but I can see the desire to change it given that it has the name of another unit in it. The only other thing I can think of is 'Aberration', but I don't know how kosher that is with the Mythos.

It's losing to "Spawn," but I really like "Horror." I love that it alludes to what is the quintessential Yog-Sothoth tale. In the context of the game, I'd love to think I was bringing out the Dunwich Horror into play. There will be so many creatures and GOO's that casual fans won't recognize; it would be great to have one of the most recognized and classic Lovecraftian beasties get an explicitly acknowledged place in the game.

Thinking about how it would actually flow in speech during a game, it would be so much more fun to say, "I'm bringing out...'The Horror.'" [other players murmur gravely, "the horror..."] It would sound so much better than saying that I were bringing out a "Spawn."

...and, of course, there would be instances where there would be TWO. "Horrors!"

I voted the Horror, but, when first reading this my first thought also was "The Horror of Yog Sothoth", pretty much for the same reasons as stated above. Looks like Spawn is leading the way, but I think HoYS is the best option.

In the story it kinda feels like a Spawn.
But HoYS sounds fine as well.
Horror on it's own sounds a bit simple.
Unspeakable Horror maybe?

Edit: after reading the later comments, I vote for Blasphemies as well.

It should be son if we are following cannon, as I believe they refer to it as wilbur's brother in the dunwhich horror. So he it is.

I'm absolutely with you that it's always better to stick to the canon all things being equal, but the game includes two beasties of this type already, not just one. Surely, too, Yog-Sothoth isn't committed to having only one child. According to Lovecraft (apparently) he also had the "Twin Blasphemies," Nug and Yeb, in a previous "marriage."

...actually, now that I see it, "Blasphemies" sounds like it fits pretty well next to "Mutants" and "Abominations." Not only does it fit well, there were already two (Nug and Yeb) of these beasties born of Yog-Sothoth in the Lovecraftian canon and, of course, there are two in the game.

My original vote was "Horrors" but "Blasphemies" might work even better.

+1 on blasphemy. I voted for spawn, but would switch to Horror if it were HoYS. I think a recount is in order

The problem with Horror for me is that it Mythos-overlaps with Hunting Horrors.

Spawn is good but again overlaps.

If it were me?

"Bastard of Yog-Sothoth."

Shoot, I didn't even think of the Hunting Horrors. Yes, having "Horrors" and "Hunting Horrors" would get confusing. "Horror of Yog-Sothoth" feels like it would get wordy to say every time I mentioned it in a session. Yep, I'm all in for "Blasphemies," then!

- Thanks for the tip, Tore!
- "Kan?"

Well, then could we change the Hunting Horrors?
