Do you have to keep track of all dead characters when playing with Walrus? Marking the space they died in? That is, until Walrus uses his revive from the dead ability?

If so, do dead characters on spaces act like they are not there for game purposes except for Walrus?

That sounds right.

Except I would allow the treasure cards of dead allies to be scavenged by the enemy (or other allies) though.

I always leave dead characters on the map. I put their last hit point token on the character token to indicate they are dead, flip their character card over, and leave their items near the card.

In addition to Walrus, Hamid Al-Duri utilizes corpses, and there is an Elite item which does the same thing as Walrus' special ability. There are also many Lith cards which allow you to draw new characters mid game and you could draw Walrus or Al-Duri even if you don't start the game with them.
