Excellent!

Has there been any word on how many copies of the game are expected to be at GenCon? I'd love to pick one up, but I don't know if there will be any left by the time I'm able to get to the booth.

Thanks Geoff. Can't wait to pre-order this as soon as it appears on Stronghold's web site.

Here's my first round of questions based on the rulebook:

"Mine tokens may be destroyed by hitting them with a torpedo, using the normal Weapon rules. Mines do not have jammers or shields, so any torpedo hit will automatically remove the token."

So I still need to lock on to them, they just don't make it any harder with jammers, right? The statement that they don't have jammers confused me a little. I think it's clear enough; I'm just double checking.

"If the Tractor Beam officer wishes to use tractor beams on the enemy ship, she may not interrupt if their Helmsman is physically moving their ship. If you announce a tractor beam attempt against the enemy ship it may not be moved until the attempt is resolved."

plus... "Once all three dice are placed on the Display, Helm immediately moves the ship on the map as directed by the Helm dice. The die in the A position is resolved first, then B, and finally C."

So what happens if the enemy helmsperson locks in their third die, but I shout "TRACTOR!" at about the same time? They haven't physically moved their ship yet, but they're supposed to immediately. My guess from the bolded language above, is that the tractor happens first, then their movement is forced to be resolved (they can't remove dice from the display) so the best time to tractor an enemy ship is just as they place the third die but before they physically move their ship. That way you can look at their upcoming path and put them in the way of all kinds of terrible things.

Is that correct?

On a side note, I was surprised at the recommended station assignments. In a 3 player game, I assumed Engineering would play Tractor Beams. Does that not work well because of the relationship between tractoring and helms?

Can't wait to play!

You still need the right number of lock icons to blow up a mine - equal to the range.

For movement - there are a number of things that can't be done while a ship is 'moving'. For all purposes this is defined as physically having your hand on the mini.

So your interpretation is correct.

For station assignments, Engineering tends to be very busy, so we felt that worked best. But as it says, feel free to divvy them up any way you'd like!

Copies are going on sale today at WBC.

There will be more at Gencon.

Shortly thereafter a special pre-order will start - but more details on that later.

Hey Geoff,

This looks fantastic. Judging by the rules, it seems this might even be playable with two as well. Have you tried a one on one battle? Is it too hectic?

To be perfectly honest, we never tried it one-on-one. It just seemed way to daunting, and I think a lot of the flow would be lost.

But feel free to give it a shot and let us know how it goes!
