Hey everyone!

I'm new here, so pardon me if this seems like a dumb question, but was wondering if there are any board game groups in Los Angeles? I love board games and never can find anyone to play with.

Although recently a couple friends and I thought it might be fun to take over a bar and make a game night there. With board game rentals, etc.

Anyway... hope to find some more LA peeps soon!

Theres also SoCalGamesDay, and SoCalGamers. In addition this comming up holiday weekend in 4 weeks there will be a strategicon game convention at the LAX Gateway Sheraton hotel from the 30th - 2nd. Also if your in the valley/burbank/sunland area we have Friday night dice every Friday. There is a lot of gaming in the area.

The Los Angeles area is huge and has dozens of gaming groups. For the most help, you probably want to specify what area (Westside, San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, Downtown LA, many others) and what times (weekends, specific weeknights, etc.) you want.

Wow! This is all very helpful. I'm closest to West Hollywood, but I regularly drive to Anaheim for events and Disneyland. I grew up in Texas so I'm used to driving - don't mind it. Schedule is pretty flexible as well.

Thanks everyone!

If You're willing to drive a bit, the Orange County Board Gamers meets on the second Saturday of the month at The Duck Club in Irvine.

Nice group. Nice venue.
Third Saturday of the month, board games are featured at Game Empire Pasadena.

Enjoy!

A board game cafe slated to open sometime "soon" in Glendale

The Strategicon conventions and the SoCal Games Day events happen a few times a year. I've left out many groups, you can do a search on Meetup.com, check Yahoo! groups, or dig into the West forum here on BGG.

You might want to let us know what kind of games you like. There's no info on your BGG page.

Furthermore, there is a great game store in Santa Monica/West LA called Aero Hobbies, and tends to have many different groups/game days..just give em a call and let em know what you're looking for. The owner, Keith, is super cool.

check em out: http://www.aerohobbiesgames.com/

So many suggestions! Wow! This is exciting.

I haven't quite figured out how to fill out my profile. This forum isn't like any others I'm used to. But I like a wide-range of board games from the classics like Monopoly, Scrabble and Twister to the brainier ones like Cranium. I love strategy games like Nippon Rails. I can get behind a music, disney or pop culture trivia pursuit. Card games rock. And I especially am fond of all the Scene-It games lately.

If you're seriously into Scrabble, there are two Scrabble clubs that meet close to you. They're both officially sanctioned clubs that use the tournament dictionary as their word source. Four timed two-player games (25 minutes per player using chess clocks; 10 point penalty for each minute or fraction over that). One meets on Wednesday nights in West Hollywood, and the other on Saturday mornings in West Los Angeles. You can find the official club roster here. They play just Scrabble (nothing else).

As for the primarily mainstream board games you mentioned, they (except for the Empire Builder genre, of which Nippon Rails is one) get little play at the local board game clubs mentioned here. Rather than trying to describe the vast variety of games played, it's best to go to a session. I'm sure that you'll find friendly gamers who are willing to teach new games to you!

As others have mentioned, Friday Night Dice is a fantastic meetup. You'll find lots of euro games and miniatures games, and plenty of everything in between.
