The Geek Mod has a number of good options to express why a pic gets declined. Can we add "Cat Pic" as one of them?

I like cat pix just fine.

It's the individual photos of every.single.piece (or figure) of a game that are making me gulp

I wonder if lowering the amount of GeekGold for image submissions is the answer...

Or having it so that new users get to submit, say, 10 images before they must Moderate some images to add more of their own. Then, after the intial 10 "freebies", they would have to Moderate and image to submit an image on a one-for-one basis.

That might fix all these anoyances all at once.

But what about those of us who like cat, baby, hot girl and piece inventory pictures? I don't understand this desire to weed out so much content, especially considering images are one of the easiest type of information for the mind to filter. I can glance through a gallery of 50 images in no time at all.

Yes, I understand that some people love the cat pics, well here:

http://catsinsinks.com/

That should keep everyone sedated.

I like cats, I have the power to ignore cat pictures, but I also like squirrels as well, and I don't submit random squirrel pictures. What I get tired of seeing is more cat than game.

Am I off base here?

Yes.

If you like squirrels then you should be submitting random pictures of them playing games.

and skiing.

submit squirrels skiing.

those always make me laugh.

Those cats in sinks look really guilty. As if they know they are just millimetres away from a dowsing, but they are daring you to turn the tap on.

I notice it is brought to us by the good people of kittenwar.

If you keep squirrels, I'm sure no one will object to your submitting pictures of them perched cutely on a game-box nibbling at a meeple.

I used that reason to decline a number of pictures the other day. Most of them still got through so I guess I was in the minority. Ahh...democracy at work.

This is not about "Cat Pics", but I was loathe to make a new topic.

How did this one get through?

http://files.boardgamegeek.com/bggimages/pic119462.jpg

It was bigger than the 3000 X 2000 guidelines under the heading "Too Big". That was the reason I declined it, yet it was approved by the majority.

Is there some kind of common rule-following, or am I missing something.

An ash I know, Yggdrasil its name. With water white is the great tree wet; thence come the dews that fall in the dales. Green by Urth's well does it ever grow.

Aahhhhhahaaaaaahhhhaaaaa *falls out of chair*

Phwewwww. That was a good one. *thinks about that image again*

Hehheeeeewhaaaaaahaaaaaaaa *falls out of chair and spills his Bushmills on himself*

*breath* *breath*

Okay, I am regaining the fine pink beneath my fingernails again. OMG, that was one of the funniest notions that I have heard for a long time.

And, it really does make a backhanded point. I love it.

I have a friend who could possibly submit photos of a hedgehog devouring a Kremlin game... and I could provide photos of a badger tearing Killer Bunnies a new one!

And the really funny thing is that there is this bar in my hometown which has a display of taxidermy which is a diorama of a miniature bar with squirrels playing poker together in front of a bar, complete with all of the appropriately sized decorations and things that a bar would have in a small midwestern US town.

Including, a four inch long mounted Northern Pike on the wall behind the bar...

LOL. That photo might actually qualify as relevent.

I now have empirical evidence that it's not 'Cat Pix' and 'Kiddie Pix' that the Geek community dislikes.

It's pictures of HAPPY cats and children.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/119049

So anyone with a cat - try photos of them with their foot trapped under a heavy game box, or being spooked by meeples.

Happened to me too with a swag of different games featuring the same doll. My percentage dropped a few points.

Could care less about cats but I will not stand for dog zapping!

From this day forward, I will approve any dog pic that is submitted with a game. That is, as long as it is in focus & well cropped (the pic, not the dog)!
