I wish they would have come up with a different name. It looks like a very different game than BattleLore ; different background, rules, and figure scale. Calling the new game 'Battlelore: Second Edition' reminds me of FFG describing Battles of Westeros as a Battlelore game, which it wasn't.

If the figures remained 20mm I'd pick it up but with a 28mm figure scale I'll pass. Also I'm a bit leery about a points value system for units, a design trap that many times leads to 'broken' units. About the only thing that would tempt me into picking up B2E would be a exciting and skillful campaign system.

The one good thing about this announcement is that it's now clear BattleLore is a dead game. As in no more expansions and no more lost hope waiting. Thus it's variant heaven now.

So, at 28mm scale does that mean these miniatures are the same scale as Descent?

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

Thanks for the pics!

The game looks fun and I'm quite interested. The logo here looks kind of ... meh? I'm not thrilled with the font/lettering. A minor quibble at worst though.

While I still don't understand the use of the BattleLore name (I mean, I understand FFG's reasoning from BoW - I just don't understand why relate these games to BL at all), this game does appear to be a Richard Borg Commands and Colors game, which BoW is not.

I am in step with you here - not sure when I'll have the time, but pretty clear to me that the races Richard Borg had mentioned he has for "Original" BattleLore will not be making appearances. I'll try to glean some abilities that "Torks" may have had from the rules attributed to the units of this new game to "finish" the original BL. Not sure if a community will form to get some consensus about what additional races should look like, but I can dream...

The "Fat-goblin unit" and "Demon-looking unit" look like the Obscene and Chaos Lord units from Runewars. (The Obscene isn't a goblin, though, just a really, really fat human (or as close to human as the Uthuk get).)

Also, on this page (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4297) in the "Order Fantastic Creatures Into the Fray" section, it makes reference to "Viper Legion", "Citadel Guard", "Crimson Archers" and "Rune Golems".

Awesome. Going to buy, going to buy, going to buy.

I never did get the first edition so this will be my first BattleLore (and Richard Borg) experience. So excited.

Alright, Brent!

FFG says on their website that they'll be running demo-games of BattleLore 2nd Ed., so you'll have to sit down to a game or two and give us a report, if you can!

Surprised they didn't just call it "Runelore"

I like what I see so far though and I'll probably end up snagging this one.

No more completely pre-built scenarios, but the two cards each represent half a scenario. The total number of "built in" scenarios would thus be "Uthuk cards" x "Daqan cards".

Plus I think it would be easy to create your own, just like in the 1st Edition.

Thanks Brent for these dispatches from the frontlines!

I looks like from the pictures the board and tiles are the same as original BattleLore--is this a prototype set, or is it near to production?

The use of the BattleLore name is to salvage something, anything at all, out of what must be now considered a terrible purchase off of Days of Wonder.

I'm happy to have a complete first edition, as I enjoy what Days of Wonder does. Like most of the FFG "lets leave holes in our products so we can set up revenue streams!" product lines I'll have to pass on this, but I gotta say I have a funny sense of conflict our of an entirely misplaced sense of nostalgia doing that.

Isn't there an error in that game pictures? I read somewhere that cavalry units were now comprised of two figs.
