I'm pretty new to the site, and allot of the games here I never heard of. The only Euro game that I own and picked up recently is Carcassonne, which I really enjoy.

I'm currently looking for a trading/economic game, something like Settlers of Catan, but which can be played with a minimum of two players. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think that a real trading game just doesn't work well with 2. In any trade, one player will gain at least a little bit more than the other person in the trade. With 3 or more players, that's OK; if A and B trade, they both improve their position, which really means that they are both gaining relative to players C, D, etc., so even if A gets a little bit more than B out of the trade, it can still be worthwhile for both of them. With only two players, this breaks down, and trades will only happen if one player is mistaken about who stands to gain the most.

Still, if somebody has a good suggestion, I'd be happy to be proven wrong. I like trading games a lot, and a two player one would be nice.

I think you hit it fairly well on the head.. but if someone can name a good 2 player trading game then I'd be keen as well...

Settlers of Catan can be played 2 player through a couple of different variants and my wife and I recently had a 2 player game each controlling 2 colours and needing to score a combined score of 15 to win.. it seemed to work pretty well.

How about

Besides that, if you go to the top navigation bar of this site, highlight
"Browse" ----> "Games" ----> "Mechanic"
then you can click on "Trading" and see all the games that have trading.

Good luck.

Not a trading (with other players) game, but a (market) trading and economic game that works well with two:

Jambo

However, this has a maximum of two players

Jambo is a terrific 2 player game.

My wife and I don't usually play 2 player trading games for the very reasons mentioned above. It is just not as interesting with 2 as with many.

Having said that, we did enjoy Oltre Mare with 2. It, like other trading games, is even more fun with 3 or more, but it was also enjoyable with 2.

Well, if you want a great trading game for newbies, you can't do much better than Bohnanza. It's not really for 2 players, but if you have more it's great.

Check out Starship Catan.

It's a 2-player game with some trading elements.

It plays in about 60 minutes and shares some elements of Settlers.

It's a lot of fun.

Also, you might look at Oltre Mare. This is not for 2 players...but if you can wrangle up a third, it is quite fun.

Actually, the new edition of Oltre Mare is for 2-5 players. Unless you just meant it isn't as fun with 2.

I was under the impression that it was a 3 - 5 player game.

However, I can't imagine it being very much fun with 2. I could be wrong...but I have enjoyed a 3 player game.

Bohnanza says it can play 2-player and that I can say, for a fact, is not very much fun. The trading aspect requires more players.

Hansa is a well thought of trading game for two to four players.

I'd call Hansa "pick up and deliver," not trading. You can't trade with other players; sometimes you must pay another player when you pick up some goods, but they can't negotiate this with you, and you give them money and don't swap goods.

I'd go for Settlers of Catan. Recently aquired it and my 8 ,9 and 11 year olds picked it up 1st play. I know it isnt strictly for 2 players but the variants do work!

Wow, so many choices!surprise

If you have any more keep them coming. I've been looking through the posts and reading the recommendations. I will be putting some time aside this week to look each game up on this site to read the reviews and details of each game.

My only problem is trying to decide which will be my next game. Hey, anyone have a couple of hundred bucks to spare so I can buy them all?
