Just so people know, there will be essentially 4 different rule books included in the expansion:

1. Generic rules for the operational games. (What is available now.)
2. Special rules for the Rohan game.
3. Special rules for the Gondor game.
4. Rules for the strategic expansion. (Expansion of the base game.)

I don't know how they will be packaged, so 2 & 3 might be put together. Enjoy!

Alex & Sean,

Did you guys notice that Eomer now becomes ready on turn 9 with Theoden? That's a significant change from the "final" rules that we were given. Makes me wonder what else changed to compensate for that.

Where do you see that?

Are there character specific rules as well?

No, I'm just very anal. Look on page 3 and there is a picture of the Eomer card (and Gothmog as well).

Trolls are only for gondor.
Which, when you are playing shadow in Rohan, is a bit sad, because they just rule.

My favorite part of the operational games is how it reversed the normal war of the ring hunt dynamic, with how fate works.

Initial war of the Ring: FP can move faster (move the fellowship moretimes), but doing so increases risk. Shadow military creates the 'clock' that FP must outrace. Shadow can increase the risk by slowing down the clock (more eyes in pool)

Operational Game: Shadow can move faster (choose more powerful leader positions), but doing so makes the clock move faster (improved fate tile drawing by the FP).

So in the original game, it is: "Do I need to move faster to beat his clock, or do I need to slow down to decrease risk".

In the operational game it is: "Does the speed increase of the additional power give me enough to overcome the increased speed of the clock" (fate moveing faster).

You're right. I spent so much time in Rohan (only played Gondor once) that I forgot he was in both games.

Alexfrog, you seem a little tipsy. Remember, the trolls are only this hot while you're wearing your beer goggles.
