Has anyone purchased the game designers book, the book of Diplomacy, and if so, is this just the rules, strategies and variants in a new published form. I recently was searching at Amazon's and this book came up however, no description of the contents were available. If anyone has purchased or read this book could you mention its contents.

The only book I know of is 'The Game of Diplomacy', which is online for free at: http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/god.htm

This is one of the many online resources at the Diplomatic Pouch: http://www.diplom.org/

Ah, found it. No, I haven't read it. But there is a sample chapter of the book on amazon.

Book Name: Calhamer on Diplomacy: The Boardgame Diplomacy and Diplomatic History

Also the Table of Contents is included. It looks like two pages at the end about the rules of the game, nothing on variants and the rest on how to play well. The book is broken down into three sections player interaction, geopolitics\positional play and misc. It is about 200 pages long.

The book is an eclectic mixture of musing by Calhamer on Diplomacy, the game, diplomacy, the international 'game' and how they relate. He draws parrallels between the game and real-life diplomatic events, escpeially in the pre-Great War era where the game is set.
While he does have some comments on good game play and the rationale behind the game system, it's not primarily a how-to-play-better book. For that one should try to find one of the Gamer's Guides Avalon Hill published on Diplomacy.
