Amusingly, even with the green die, my wife just looks at the dice and says the answer. She is always right, so we had to make it harder.
Of course, she still always wins because it makes it harder for both of us, but . . .
We found too many "nothings", especially when it was three film. I think it might be because the poachers succeed 2/3 of the time, and it is not that common to have three of a kind anyway. I am sure a stats person could analyze the game and determine what % of the time a three film = nothing.
Anyway, our variant is to tie the poachers to the film.
If 1 film - poachers kill even if ranger is the same. (-1 red)
If 2 film - poachers kill unless ranger is the same. (standard rule: -1 red unless red = green)
If 3 film - poachers don't kill, but ranger breeds an extra one. (+1 green)
This has the advantage of diminishing the "nothing" answers, which I think is a good thing.
