I tried using a firepot in my build for the first time and it was fairly successful.

My fleet

HMS Goliath
Captain
Admiral Morgan
Sir Christpher Myngs
Helmsman

La Pique
Captain
Firepot
Limit ransom +5 (name escapes me)

Le Bon marin

I ran the Le Bon Marin as my treasure hauler and headed for the center wild isle with both the Le Bon Marin and the La Pique. I was hoping my opponent would mistake it for a treasure hauler. It worked.

The Goliath used extra actions from Morgan (Sir Christopher Myngs was kept secret) and steamed head on to his fleet:

HMS Titan
Sac captain crew extravaganza

HMS London
Captain
helmsman

I played mermaids on the Titan. I don't yet have FotG and I was fearing mermaids from my opponent as he has played it in the past. As it turns out he had no events so why not.

I attacked the HMS London and rolled badly. I was only able to remove two masts. I then moved the la Pique away from the island and attacked the London, although not in the same turn. I got a hit with the firepot and moved out of range as he was concentrating on the Goliath. The next round the London was burning on all remaining masts. She was scuttled the next turn.

I had two turn left on mermaids and rolled badly and got no extra actions on the Goliath, even after revealing Sir Christopher Myng.

mean while the Le Bon Marin docked at the center home isle and loaded:

Fruit (down two cargo)
Helmsman
7 gold piece

and made it back to my HI and out for more.

The Goliath had to turns to do in the Titan. 3 actions a turn possible. 6 shoot actions. I rolled badly and got no extra actions. No big deal. Still 2 shoot actions on a five mast. 2 hits total. Still 3 masts left. Enter the sac captain and some unbelievable rolls and the Goliath was derelict. Another quick shot and bye bye la Pique as well.

The Le Bon marin raced to grab some more treasue. I was able to load 2 coins totally 10 gold and left the helmsman behind. The Titan swooped in and sent me to the bottom.

I lost all my ships but still managed 10 gold to his 4. I won with my gold but my opponent claimed a moral victory for coming back to sink my fleet after 6 turns of the mermaid.
