I had this idea for a long time and finally manage to build a prototype. The game is played with the seafarer expansion but with only 10 VP has there seem to always lack island. In total, they are 12 pentagons and 30 hexagons and I used the recommended tile for a 4 players game of seafarer minus 4 water tiles. This prototype is made mainly of laminated card-stock, scotch tape (a lot of it) and hook and loop dot. In a near future, I would like to build a plastic equivalent with magnet instead of Velcro dot. Also, I would like the globe to be and two axis of rotation like some desk globe so you wouldn't need to lift it each time but would still give a full view.

That looks great! On a gameplay note, have you noticed any effect of the pentagons restricting placement options for settlements?

Unfortunately, the game was set for a 4 players game, but was played with only 3 players, so we had too much space. I am gonna have to retry with an adequate number of people.

This is an extremely cool idea!
props.

The next step would be to put it on a motorized rotating axis, and adding a rule that you can only build when that part of the globe is infront of you, adding a timing aspect to the game. (My friends would love anything that would limit my turn length).
