I was just wondering whether anyone has played a 2p game of TtR where each player controls two colours? Then play would progress exactly like a normal 4p game. At the end of the game the winner is the one with the highest combined score.

Could be interesting juggling the extra priorities (which may be competing against your other colour) and I imagine would open up a host of aggresive/denial/obstruction tactics.

We could turn it into a Knizia game and make your score the lowest of the scores you get with your two colours!

My girlfriend and I play it this way all the time, and find that it works really well. I think the best way to score it would be to add your 2 colours together, as we often find we are in spots where you have to work hard not to have one of your colours screw over the other.

Our favorite was to play.

Our Rules:

2 Sets of trains for each players
Seperate destination tickets for each set (color)
1 set of cards for both colors

You decide on each of your turns which set to use your cards on.

When you pull new destination tickets you must declare which set they are for BEFORE looking at them.

We score each player's lowest color X 2, highest X 1

Probably the lowest score of the two color sets.

I like your rules for this David. I'll sure give it a try next time.

I like your rules for this David. I'll sure give it a try next time.

Example: You have the Red and Blue sets. Blue scores 80. Red scores 110.

Your total score is 80 X 2 + 110 = 270

One other note: The game does not end until the player has reduced both of his sets to 2 trains.

That variant certainly does look enjoyable. I may have to try that with my wife sometime. Thanks for posting it!

This is our favorite two player variant; better than Big Cities. We like to use your variant with the Mega Card set up from the 1910 expansion.
Thanks for posting it Thumbs up.

The last time we played TTR, my husband and I were bored to death so tonight I looked up some ideas to make it harder and came across this thread. We played tonight using your variant and really enjoyed it! Deciding which color the destination tickets are for before looking at them was a great touch. Many times I had wished the tickets I drew were for the other color!
