It still looks like a pre-production board, though - the edges don't look finished. Not that I mind a square board. Round board would be cooler, though.

Yes, the board will be square. It is a technical issue, the french round board has problems staying flat and iit seems that, for some mysterious physical reason that only an scientist could explain, a square board tends to stay more flat than a round one.

I also prefers a round board, even when not perfectly flat, but it's not my decision and I can see the point.

In addition to being better able to lie flat, the English board also has a few other minor improvements over the French board - there is a place to play the Discovery cards that (in the French version) were just slipped under the edge of the board. It makes it clearer which Discovery card goes with which Zone. The English board also features a Lost In Space memorial, where players can put Astronauts who are lost due to the actions of the Soldier, Saboteur or Femme Fatale. It makes it much easier to determine if the player with the Lost In Space Memorial Bonus Card qualifies for the bonus or not.

The board from Articulate is round and stays very flat, but that might be because the folds are US style (valleys in the playing surface) rather than Euro style (valleys on the reverse). It's also mounted onto very thick board, and I think the unusual weight helps in lay flat.

I'm sure they could do a round board for MR, but it would probably be a real headache, and cost a lot more to do it properly. The square one looks fine.

Did they also fix the typo on the board while they were at it?
The infamous "vasistas borealis" of the french version?

I thought it was fun, and asked them to keep it. I don't know if they did it.
