Ive only played this game once and know this rule can simply be ignored but why is the 3rd race scored doubled? theres no real reason for this, since it introduces a higher amount of luck in the game and apparently alea tried to give this game a bit more tactic then the original (pace counter, last horse payout, only one horse per space , 2nd and 3rd place horses actually finish the race).

Do RT fans think that the double payout is good for the game?

BTW Turf Horse Racing horse names are much cooler, RT horse names are kind of boring. At this moment IMO Turf Horse Racing is a superior game, but Ive only played both games twice.

It just allows players who are behind a chance to catch up, and makes the last race a little more important.

Is it effective? I don't know. There is not a lot to this game and I have found it does not hurt or improve either way.

It give everone (or at least most players) a small chance to win, even if they done bad in the first two rounds.

First, it's not a gamers game, but a family game. It's better for the childs to always have a small chance to catch up.

Second, it avoids kingmaker problems. If half of the players have no chance of winning, they might as well try to move the horses as fast as possible, to end the game quickly. If they still have a chance to win, they'll play according to their position.

If you are looking for a thematic reason, it happens at real race tracks alot, too.

Gamblers who are having a bad day try to make it all up in one race, and people having a good day try to turn it into a really big score, because they think they are 'hot' that day.

Thanks to Mozbink, Werbaer and fanaka66 for their reply.

Avoiding kingmaker problems could be a good reason to include the double payout in the 3rd race.

It would be nice to see a bit more risk on the betting in the new version.

Here are the names of the horses of Turf Horse Racing vs Royal Turf:
(from fastest to steadiest horses)

Roamin Emperor vs Earl Grey
Silver Blaze vs Albino
Mosstown Boy vs Sahara Wind
Lagoon Lady vs Caramello
Desert Prince vs Red Fox
The Red Baron vs Nougat
Raven Beauty vs Othello
