The search engine uses OR by default just like Google. If you want both use AND.

Google doesn't use OR by default - it uses AND.

I don't even bother to use the BGG search engine. Google does a much better job. Just enter your search terms and limit to the BGG site:

site:boardgamegeek.com "math trades"

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aboardgamegeek.com+%22m...

The first hit is "BGG Thread: Math trade guide"

Any search term that you want to guarantee is on the page must have a + prefix. You tend to get pages with ALL the words you specify because of the kind of matching Google does, but not confuse that with AND.

I am not defending BGG's search. I think it is terrible as well.

According to Google's help file, they use AND by default:

http://www.google.com/help/basics.html#and

Google wrote:
Automatic "and" queries

By default, Google only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms. Keep in mind that the order in which the terms are typed will affect the search results. To restrict a search further, just include more terms. For example, to plan a vacation to Hawaii, simply type vacation hawaii.

Well what do you know. They have changed it since I first learned it. I can stop putting in those pesky little +'s now.

As a non-supporter, I always find it amusing when another non-supporter complains! It's kind of like the old axiom, except that we're getting a lot more than we pay for!

On a side note, I'm .70 gg away from getting my avatar and figure that I am spending enough time at this site to contribute financially. I figure I'll add the avatar and the supporter tag at the same time. I have no plans to start complaining immediately upon doing so. Great site!

Ok, all avatar-ed and supporter-ed and ready to start complaining!

PS - I know everyone around here loves the site and just wants to see it be its best!
