This is the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War battle at Chickamauga.

Often overshadowed by the struggle at Gettysburg, the Chickamauga campaign was one the most interesting strategic operations of the war. The battle itself was a maker (or breaker) of reputations for officers like Rosecrans, Thomas, Garfield, and Granger. Confederate troops rushed from Virginia by rail played an important role at Chickamauga, and the battle was one of the great missed opportunities of the Lost Cause.

I feel at this point I need to confess two things in connection to this important historical battle. First that after all these years of studying the civil war I still can't spell the battle's name half the time. Second, there is something about Braxton Bragg that always just makes me want to bitch slap the ugly spud.
