Steve Pouey (who will henceforth be known as Spouey) was anxious to dive back into Empires of the Ancient World, having played an aborted game the previous week. He recruited Lenny (who was later relieved by Steven M, who will henceforth be known as Steven), Darren, Ashton and Jon to join him in this new 'war' style game from Martin Wallace.
For those interested, I've described the game in a bit of detail in last week's session report. The group managed to complete two and one-half turns before calling a halt do to the late hour. They plan on resuming the game next week.
Darren managed to scribble some notes, which contained everyone's thoughts on the game. Entering turn two, Steven was the perceived leader, which isn't an enviable position to be in. Steven's opponents sought to remove him from his perch, and, judging from the victory point tallies following the second turn, the succeeded.
Jon was also suffering, being defeated in three consecutive attempts to conquer Britannia. Ashton was also experienced military setbacks, failing to absorb Galatia.
Both Steven and Jon managed to scoop the two prized Diplomats, a figure which should help them greatly in the remainder of the game.
The victory point tally following round two is:
Darren 33, Jon 32, Spouey 27, Ashton 26, Steven 12
The card-based combat system is proving a bit controversial, with Lenny expressing a distaste for it and others not being overly fond of it. As many of us did last week, Darren feels the Diplomat figure is way too powerful and a mechanism should be available in which to capture one from an opponents, or at least force him to discard the card.
As mentioned, the group plans to complete the game next week.
