I'm constantly searching for my SMG provided rulers and blast templates. The clear plastic makes them almost invisible when I set them down. I'm wondering if any one has colored/stained/pimped their rulers or blast templates to make them easier to find...as well as to read? Any successful ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks...

John Boone created ones of different lengths out of wood which makes it very easy to move about the board.

I picked up a multi-segmented one at Historicon. Don't know what it is called, but the segments are each one inch aluminum, and are multi-colored. I have mine setup for three inch increments, so each three inches is a different color. I built it so it is 21-inches long, which is an ideal length for this game.

Kevin gave me a nice idea. I will have to see what type of design I can come up with.

Yes, this is what I bought. The ruler is fairly strong and stays straight.

How many inches did you get? Did you color code each inch differently? What colors did you select?

I ordered today Jim and weent with 7 different colors (3 inches each) and one of the colors having he end cap. I went with colors I could certainly decipher upon each change.

Woa! 7 different colors? Probably way to psychedelic for me surprise...I'd probably go with a boring 2 color, every other inch type setup snore...but hey, whatever works for you is good, no? meeple

I went with 7-colors 3-inch segments totaling 21-inches. I have yet to need more than that.

That might work...I am just concerned that the coloring might rub off on your hands after handling?

There are only so many problems I can solve in a given time frame and I think I am done for September.

Borrowing heavily from October, you could also use paint. Perhaps an acrylic (which retains some slight flexibility after drying/curing) Just rough the template plastic up with some fine or very fine sandpaper first.

Am I missing something? I usually measure the walk distance which is typically 3, 4 or 5 inches. Fresh/good boots may conceivably up the max to 6" and with a move and move again gives me 12.

Everything else is counting squares and modifiers.

So why 21"?

Cheers
D.

Yes. Yes we were. I did not receive one and so did not face that moral dilemma.

I'm guessing it's close range for an MG42.

LOS from one guy to another can be tricky when it passes through the corners of squares. The longer ruler lets me check the LOS over long distances.

I just use a tape measure. Seems to work fine for measuring.

Edit: For LOS I just use a piece of string/yarn to get a nice line from helmet to helmet.
