I am about to go on a family vacation and without the internet the kids will be forced to play board/card games. So am looking for cheap and portable games that give us the best bang for the buck. For our last trip I picked up 'No Thanks' and 'Love Letter' both were big hits and we played them every night. The game 'Sorry Revenge' was played once.

Suggestions please.

Thanks.

Parade without a doubt. Sushi Go has also been fun and might be a bigger hit with kids.

Plenty of good stuff under $10, but you don't say how old your kids are. I thumbed Coloretto above. My family has enjoyed it for years. Another one we like is The Bottle Imp based on the Robert Louis Stevenson short story. Monopoly Deal Card Game is a good family game. No Thanks! is decent. Hey, That's My Fish! in the small box version is great, although I find the set up to be annoying sometimes.

There is a template you can print out that shows spaces for all the tiles which makes set up easier.

$3 for a wooden tile Acquire at an SPCA book sale.
$4 each for both Up Front and Banzai from a used game shelf at a game store.

OK, that's $11! surprise

Yeah, I've tried that. Thanks. It's more just the way the little hexes bump into each other and shift. It just gets under my skin. More of a pet peeve than anything else. Still a great game. It lives in our little travel box.

Talisman, Talisman Expansion Set, The Talisman Dungeon, Talisman: The Adventure
with all minis that went with them.
Probably came to about $5 total at a Goodwill.

I was so broke at the time, I had to collect bottles to come
up with the cash for them, even so - and was worried someone
else would grab them up whilst I was doing so.

Plato 3000.
It's a mod of Rummy, so very simple; and works best with 2 or 3 players (up to 4 is possible). However, it has a touch of strategy, very nicely designed cards, and very good production values. It's a deck of cards, so very portable too. I'm amazed at how much fun my kids and I had with this - for under $8!

We just got Sushi Go! and it's a lot of fun. We also like Archaeology, by the same designer. For slightly more than $10 I recommend Forbidden Island or Forbidden Desert. I like that every time the board is set up it's always different.
