Hi,

first of all, I hope I put this question in the correct forum. I did not find any which directly addresses recommendations of shops.

I moved into the area of Geneva/Switzerland and I am looking for a 'local' game shop, which sells also imported games, preferrable 'light' and 'serious' wargames (e.g. GMT/Columbia/FFG). The closest thing to this which I found by now is a shop in Annecy which is specialised in rather serious games (Lots of Chess, Go, Poker, Darts etc) which also had a shelf with some -- mostly French -- board games.

I do not speak French, so a shop with British/US games would be most welcome. The closer to Geneva, the better, of course, but everything around the Lac Leman, in Lyon or Annecy would be interesting.

Does anyone know a good FLGS in this area?

Thanks a lot in advance for any hint !!

.... two weeks without any hint of a game shop.... this pretty much confirms what I was suspecting about this area.... either here are only few gamers or really no shops for the serious board game hobby.... or both. What a pity ... shake

Sorry, I can't help you with the Geneva Area, but since Switzerland is as "huge" as it is, what you probably want to do is make a daytrip to Bern - right into the Dragons lair (Drachenäscht).

http://www.fatamorgana.ch/drachenaescht/

I live in the Fribourg Area, but the Drachenäscht in Bern and the "Delirium Ludens" in Biel/Bienne (this one probably takes a bit longer from Geneva) are the only two shops for "the serious board game hobby" in that part of the country - at least that I would know of.

Luckily, they are both great...

Thanks a lot for this hint. To avoid hurt patriotic feelings, I should clarify that with this region I was merely speaking of the Geneva area, so maybe the cantons Geneva and Vaud, not of Switzerland. However, I wanted to visit Bern anyway some time in the ner future, and it is great to know that there is a shop to visit, too. Again, many thanks!

You should find some games in Zwicky's, just behind Cornavin station - opposite where all the tram work is going on.

There is a thriving games club in St Julien. It meets on alternate Thursdays and the occasional Sunday at the MJC from 19h until (very) late. The next evening is this week as it turns out: the 6th. There are gamers from all over (including a Canadian), so language is not an issue. Message me if you need more directions or info.

I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a very good shop in Solothurn, of all places, down by the river... A friend who was posted there for a while thought it was a slice of heaven!
