Hey Guys,

Did anyone count how much it would cost to replace all monsters and heroes from 1st ed with proxies and what are best available proxies?

With the range of prices and proxies available, I don't think there's any one answer to this question.

A quick search should pull up a few discussions about them. I recall posting in at least 2 different threads in the past few weeks about proxies.

This is generally your best option:

Although they don't give you sizes for the larger monsters, so it's hard to make sure you get the right size. Also, they don't really have any 1x2 or 2x3 monsters.

Anything under Pathfinder, Dark Haven Legends, and Bones all fit to the 1"x1" grid size that Descent uses. Some are 2x2, some are 3x3. Most are 1x1 though.

Most Reapers minis are quite a bit bigger than Descent. This obviously works for monsters, but you have to "look the other way" quite a bit for humans/elves/etc.

D&D minis are closer in size, but still generally larger in scale. They have more variability in their scaling so there are some that work better than others.

It all comes down to what you are willing to live with. I use some of both for proxies as they do fit fine on the board and so forth even though they don't always match.

For the monsters, they're great, but yeah, the humanoid characters are a slightly different scale. You can save a bit of money by ordering from Cool Stuff Inc rather than direct from Reaper, since they discount a little from the RRP. You may need to buy bases for them too, if that kind of thing bothers you.

For the heroes... you can get the most of the miniatures from Descent v1 base set in Runewars and its Banners of War expansion. Plus you get an amazing game packed in for "free".

Which makes them wonderful menacing proxies for the lieutenants ;)

Slightly larger, hence the "more menacing" :-)

There are quite a few threads here which cover proxies, including many with pictures. Just do a search.

Yep! And if anyone complains, remind them that only one of the lieutenants is human, anyway.
