OK...

Now that we have all the comedy out of the way...

laugh

I want you-all to know more about this.

Basically the scoop is that we here at CMG got an email recently from a
Criminal Justice Instructor.

He explained that his school was using PP (Police Precinct) as part of their training.

Our reaction was...

WOW!

We were very excited and flattered by the development.

As anyone knows, who follows closely what we post here on BGG (and elsewhere),...

We have BOTH a VERY high regard for those who work in Law Enforcement, AND enjoy a little humor around the subject matter (e.g. - Donuts, etc).

We are proud to be involved (in our own little way) with this part of the world (meaning Law Enforcement), and pleased that some of the biggest fans of the game are those within this community (Police and other).

When we developed Police Precinct, we were not expecting that it would play a role in training future police officers, but we COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!

thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup

Give me a minute, and I will be posting again (right here) to discuss how PP is being used in the classroom.

Stay Tuned...

Alright, now let's take a look at how Police Precinct is used.

I think the best way to do this is to take a look at the words of the CJ Instructor himself (the following came from excepts of the initial email sent to us recently)...

"My family, friends and I really enjoyed the game and we thought it would be an interesting tool to use in my classroom. This semester I am teaching dispatching which only allows a limited number of my thirty students to participate in each of the scenarios. I decided to use this game with the other students to give them an activity that reinforces the lesson in a group setting. I have found this to be a great tool to demonstrate problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking, prioritizing calls and effective use of resources. In the short time that I have been using the game in the classroom it has become one of the students’ favorite activities.

In addition to being an instructor I am also the statewide advisor for Skills USA Ohio. I would like to be able to mention this game to other instructors in my field when I attend the state wide Skills USA activities in November, March and April of this school year. I believe that other instructors will see the benefit of reinforcing the lessons that we teach on a daily basis through the use of an activity that the students think of as fun rather than work. My goal is to see if I can demo this game to other criminal justice instructors and encourage them to incorporate into their lessons.

Sincerely,

James J. Goodman
Criminal Justice Instructor/Commander
Fairfield Career Center
Carroll, Ohio 43112"

Whew! I'm so relieved. I was afraid they were using it to prop up the table with the short leg.

Just kidding. I really enjoy Police Precinct, and as a former law enforcement officer, I can appreciate your appreciation for the fine folks in uniform.

Thanks,
jrbentley

Managing this brand is a labor of love, and it's VERY nice to hear things like this. It makes it all feel worth-while.

We here at CMG are both humbled by, and appreciative of, this development.

modest

James and I are forging a working relationship which I hope will result in a great deal of fun and education to be had by all (me included).

I also hope that the school's involvement with PP will result in an even better game!

How could you top the energy and input of a whole class of students who are immersed in this topic.

I love it!

Hey...

I just thought of something.

What if we made a new character called "Instructor", who also served on the Task-Force

If we do end up doing this, of course we would name the Character...

Commander James Goodman

After the "Real Deal"!!!

But what should we make this Character's special skills be?

Ideas?

Wait...

One more thing.

Should one of the expansions for PP involve an extention of the board that would have a school on it? Or should there be a Mobile Training Unit?

Or...

???

My wheels are turning.

But...

It's not my wheels we need turning.

Ole?

You there?

Maybe we can talk about this in our meeting today.

Alright, I'll shut-up now.

As a gamer and an instructor, I am excited to be involved in the future of such a great game in and out of a classroom. By the way, my students love the donuts in the game as we always have a "cops breakfast" (donuts and coffee) on days they need rewarded.

You know, I've been doing educational games as well as teaching myself before, so I am no stranger to merging games and teaching/instructing. Therefore, I am delighted to read this Whole thread - it is so good to hear Police Precinct being used in such a positive way.

I certainly also see the possibilities, especially if you get a bit creative and go in and tweak rules and scenarios to fit your current needs as an instructor.

Thanks,

Ole Steiness,

Just a thought.

Special skills for Cmdr. James Goodman:

Attributes, 1 Inv. 2 Ar. 2 Emer.

Skills: Once per turn remove one punk from a neighborhood with a patrol officer present.

Or.

When making a successful arrest remove one extra punk from the neighborhood.

Very Good Erick!!!

Also the students of our "real-life" instructor / hero / character, have created a card for him.

I have expressed an interest in them posting it here in this thread.

(meaning the image of the card... they made an actual card!!!)

I hope it happens, because they also came up with some VERY cool special skills for him.

Furthermore, I placed the image in a folder on Drop-box that Ole and I use for future Characters. We have a bunch in the Q, but I particularly (for various reasons) love this one.

My top two characters I want to see coming out are...

K9 (which George has already done the art for)

and...

Instructor

but...

Don't worry, Ole has a bunch of other awesome ones ready to go.

Stay Tuned!
