My guess, it's either been printed for:

They had the space- why not fill it in and create a talking point ?

For an upcoming promo race?

They stated on the Kickstart comments that they "didn't like blank tokens".

So there's no use for it... yet. But I think a house rule is in order.

I figured it was to fill out dead space. But not sure why they didn't include more coin, or even better, a 6th "generic" leader just in case. Now that 1 6-player board is coming, it would have been a more useful token than this.

For the time being, give it to the person that won the tie-break in case of a tie to give them 0.5 more points.

I don't have a game by my side now, but meanwhile you could have a look at these two pictures:


The front side is in the bottom left of the second punch board in the first image and the back side is in the bottom right of the second image.
