I own almost every miniature (-6) from Flank Speed and Condition Zebra (I don´t own any minis of the other sets) and don´t want to invest here further.
I have some extra money for 6 Boosters (which I could maybe push up to 8-10) and I´m thinking of using it either on Set V or Set VI boosters.
Which do you think has the more useful ones and how much would you invest to get a good selection from the set, while keeping watch on your budget?

I wouldn't bother with booster sets, but go to either

http://www.12-7-games.com/

http://www.miniaturemarket.com/collectible-miniatures/axis-a...

Here you can order the exact models you want to buy. They are cheaper than boosters. The postage is not a problem if you buy a fair amount and not just one or two models. It costs the same for 2 or for 22 as far as I was concerned.

Or another option is to go here

You can buy direct from fellow gamers at very reasonable prices. I have used all three options satisfactorily.

I agree 100% with dutchy124 if you are interested in building your fleets to play the game. You can get ships that fill gaps in what you have for very reasonable amounts.

On the other hand, if you love the process of opening boosters and aren't really that concerned with what you get, I'd suggest the older set. Boosters in all of the earlier sets are getting harder and harder to find (so are set VII for that matter but not at the same rate).

The forummini link that dutchy124 listed is an outstanding resource for all things War at Sea. I highly recommend the site.

Here's some plus and minus points :

Set V
+ Kaga - important Japanese carrier and one of the finest sculpts in W@S
+ Atago - great new sculpt of Japanese heavy cruiser (4 in class)
+ Chitose - fun 'mini-aircraft' seaplane detachments rules
+ San Giorgio - cool old Italian armoured cruiser - deployment SA
+ USS Essex - big US carrier, replenish aircraft is cool SA
+ Atlantis - German raider with SAs that add new dimension to game
+ Two big new impressive battleships ...
- ... that are 'fantasy' (ie never built - a problem for some)
- 3 Neutral Swedish units - bleh
- Not one carrier plane!
- Buffalo sculpt way too small

Set VI
+ 2 US fleet carriers (can use Hornet for Enterprise & Yorktown)
+ scary-good carrier Corsairs
+ US merchantmen for convoy scenarios
+ 2 very usable Japanese carrier aircraft
+ 7 first class battleships incl the giant USS Montana
+ Moltke and HMS Eagle are really nice new sculpts
+ New Swordfish somewhat more usable
+ Heavy Shore Battery adds something new to the game
- Taiho is a pretty bad sculpt
- Ryujo is a great sculpt but is let down by oversized deck planking
- USS Montana's turrets lack definition
- Mogami's negative SA is painful
- Daihatsu landing craft aren't going to get too much use!

Personally I'd go with Set VI, but it's down to what kind of things you're looking for really.

At this point, finding any Set V boosters or rare miniatures is akin to winning the lottery . . .
