OK, the Fellowship is last known to be in a certain territory, Orthanc;

it contains a Nazgul, 10 Shadow Army units, Saruman and the StrongHold.

The ringbearers however have moved 2 up the progress track since the

last Reveal.

When would there be any affect upon the ringbearers/companions?

What would be the effects upon the ringbearers/companions by

each of that Nazgul, 10 Shadow Army units, Saruman and the StrongHold?

Or... was the effect actually incurred when the ringbearers/companions

were Revealed in Orthanc.

Just what does that phrase on p 41 "If during the Hunt..." mean?

Outside of any effects triggered by Event cards, there would only be an effect on the Fellowship during the Hunt itself, whether triggered by Fellowship movement or an Event card.

The Nazgul, Army, and Shadow-controlled Stronghold would each generate one Hunt re-roll (each Hunt die may only be re-rolled once). The actual number of Nazgul and/or Army units doesn't matter. If the Fellowship is revealed by the Hunt, an extra Hunt tile would be drawn, as it would be revealed moving from a Shadow Stronghold under Shadow control.

An extra Hunt tile would have also been drawn at that time, as the Fellowship would have been revealed moving into a Shadow Stronghold under Shadow control.

That particular reference refers to the Hunt Roll, so it applies at the time of that roll.

What was the fellowship doing in Orthanc?

Strategy tip for the FP: the fellowship should not wander aimlessly around Middle-earth admiring the sights. It should head for Mordor, where it can destroy the ring. Diverge from the shortest path to Mordor only when you need to heal at an FP stronghold, or sometimes to avoid the corruption or corruption risk of going through Moria.

Orthanc is kinda tall, especially to a hobbit. Maybe Frodoand Sam thought it was Mount Doom. Or maybe they were just out of tobacco.

I found your comments funny

But I can think of a few edge cases where the fellowship might end up in Orthanc.

1. Going through Saruman's territory will take longer than going through Moria but it allows you to stop by two free people's strongholds on the way.
2. The Fellowship could have been pushed toward Saruman by the event card that allows the Shadow to move the Fellowship one space.
3. There are a couple of good combat cards that kick ass if the fellowship is in the same location. Moving the Fellowship to Orthanc makes the Shadow player reconsider evacuating Orthanc, attacking Helm's Deep or even Minas Tirith (the last stop before the Fellowship enters Mordor).
