Maybe this is a language problem (I´m german) but on some scenarios I´m not quite sure if I understand the goals correctly.

First of all a basic assumption. The rulebook talks about winning the game in two paraghraphs on page 18:

"If the Villain has nowhere to escape to, you win.", and later:
"If the players meet the condition for winning on the scenario card your group defeats the scenario..."

This sounds like you win a scenario by either "killing" the Villain or achieve the scenario goal. I could nowhere find a rule that says you always have to defeat the villian, except in the (very helpful) helpsheet in the download section that says: "Players win if they complete the scenario objectives and defeat the villain.". But I´m not sure where this is coming from.

So here are the the scenario goals from the base set plus "expansion" 1:

Brigandoom:
"...put an end to their brigandy before more than coins and livestock are lost"
Means: Kill the villain? Plus kill all his henchmen ("their brigandy")?

Poison Pill:
"Disarm his deadly traps..."
Means: Disarm all traps in all locations. No need to kill villain? (not mentioned as goal)

Attack on Sandpoint:
"Find the goblins´leader and unmask their ally in sandpoint..."
Means: Kill villain? It only says "find". Unmask their ally. What is unmask and who is his ally?

Trouble in Sandpoint:
"...destroy the evil things they unleashed..."
Those evil things will be... what? Henchmen?

Thistletop Delve
"Hunt down Nutella and her henchmen..."
Means: Kill the villain + all henchmen (?).

Approach to Thistletop
"Strike back against the goblins and find out what´s been stirring the maniacs to attack"
Means: Kill all goblin characters?. How do I find out what´s been stirring the maniacs to attack?

Everything you're quoting on the scenario cards is flavor, not rules text.

Kill the villain.

The *only* scenario currently available that has a special win condition other than defeating the villain is "Local Heroes". See that card for an example.

Kill the villain.

Now that´s boring :-(

Thanks for the answer.
I was just confused by this sentence:
"If the players meet the condition for winning on the scenario card your group defeats the scenario..."
I thought the scenario goals are somewhere hidden in the fluff text :-/

So you don;t have to close all the locations to win?

Nope. Just kill the villain. But since there are always (players + 2) locations, you do have to close at least 2 locations before you can spread everyone out enough to temporarily close locations and prevent the villain from running off after you defeat its combat check. So there's no rule about what you have to close; it's just logistics.

Not usually. There's one oddball scenario that makes you do that (and it's probably the hardest one in the bunch). Usually you just have to close enough locations (temporarily or permanently) to be able to stop villain from escaping somewhere once you defeat him.

It's usually pretty hard to win unless you close most of the locations.
