This is an interesting scenario, made more-so by the fact that reinforcements for both players have their place of arrival randomly selected.

Essentially the Germans get 4 bunkers, they are located on high peaks, so you need to know your line of sight rules re elevations. They then get some wire, mines and foxholes that they can place to try and make the various approaches to the bunkers difficult for the Allies. Victory is based on casualties and the capture of bunkers.

each bunker has an event chit under it.

(please click on images)

Above, the facings of the 4 bunkers are shown with 'V's. around them are foxholes, wire and mines.

Location A - the flamethrower is here (range 2) and after moving into the nearby building, their fire can reach out into one of the bunkers - though in this game they took the first fire themselves as they moved and had to recover from being shaken..

Location B- The French reinforcements randomly arrive here on turn 1 and move along the wooded high ground to get to the rear of the bunkers. They take fire from a squad in a foxhole and are surprised to find that the lower bunker has a facing that can see them.

Location C - Asp de France takes a couple of squads and some explosives and starts a journey that follows a safe path in cover, to outflank the bunkers ..... but,

Just as they reach the bottom of the map - that large stack of German reinforcements randomly arrive on that map edge. The French have the advantage - so what to do? They decide to stand and activate elsewhere instead. In the next German activation, they do not waste any time and bring on a stack of three squads, an MG and explosive with the leader and melee with Asp de France.

A disastrous result for both sides as they eliminate each other! The fight really gets tough now and starts to bog down into something of a stalemate. As French units move out, they cross a killing zone and most movement attempts end up with a shaken result.

The French did manage to capture 1 bunker and remove the occupants of another (without being able to occupy the place themselves). Overall, a tough one for the French but it will be interesting to see how differing reinforcement entry points will change things.

This is one of my favorite LnL scenarios. "Battle for the Isthmus" is also another favorite of mine, in a module that has, for me, perhaps the best set of scenarios in the system. Those who've shied away because it doesn't have Americans or British in it are missing out BIG TIME.
