nothing sais you "replace" such actions
The exact wording that brought up the question in our game was:
"Discard the Medicines before any player rests and roll. The recovery will be as follows:" (and then it lists the dice rolls with the injuries & traumas that are healed)
"The recovery" wording specifically threw us because the rest action normally has its own "recovery" dice roll. It doesn't say "in addition" or "replace" as you mentioned. If the card just healed you, why require the rest action? If the answer is narrative, I can buy that. However, being weak after recovering from injury/trauma (due to replacing the energy roll) seems like a strong narrative argument too.
