We had a great game of Eclipse last night, even if we made one minor mistake.

Game started out pretty normal, Hydran and Empire exploring. Hydrans came across a couple more Discovery tiles (ship upgrades). Empire was having trouble finding Materials planets so instead went for Orbitals, which came out early.

Mid-game, the Hydran continue exploring and, ironically, mildly investing in tech. Hydrans were able to pick up the Monolith technology, but still had a lack of Materials. To compensate, they upgraded and built two Cruisers to attack nearby sectors with Ancients, Discoveries and Materials planets.

The Empire, meanwhile, was having a harder time bringing force to bear against Ancients. A double-ancient hex that held the Materials the Empire desperately needed rebuffed an initial assault by upgraded Interceptors, but then succumbed to an assault by an upgraded Dreadnaught and Cruiser.

By the end of mid-game, the Hydrans had plenty of Materials (the Discoveries turned out to be Materials and Money resources) and the Empire had established it's resource engine fully.

Late game, Hydrans went into Monolith overdrive plopping down like Ancient cow-patties. Empire then brought the single upgraded Cruiser and Dreadnaught to the GCDS, both upgraded with double Improved Hulls and Plasma Cannons. The GCDS was destroyed in a straightforward victory, but it was a little too late. The Hydrans had already dumped enough Monoliths to make a space cruiser feel like it was playing Asteroids.

Final score: Hydrans 41, Empire 36

Empire had lots of points from Reputation, but Monolith points took Hydrans over the top.
