Signups for Castle of Darkness!

Description: This is a werewolf game about an adventuring party journeying through a castle infested with monsters.


However, some of the adventurers are evil, and are trying to kill off the rest of the party during the night!

Role Reveal

Role and alignment (good or evil) are revealed upon death.

Monsters

During the day phase, players encounters a set of monsters, which they must collectively defeat. VERY IMPORTANT: Players attack the monsters by posting to the thread that they will fight a certain monster, which is designated IN BOLD as MELEE: (monster/group) or use a special ability on a monster or set of monsters. (Which will be posted as: SPECIAL: (monster/group) , and then the special ability to be used will be sent to the mod by PM). If you specify 'special' you must PM me what special ability to use. You may say 'special' and do nothing.

You may choose to not post special or melee, in which case you sit out of the battle and do not contribute. However, everyone will know this. This may or may not be beneficial to the party, depending on wether there was sufficient force to defeat the monsters. (Overkill wastes your resources). However, you might still be hurt by undefeated monsters, if you dont fight.

Some monsters may wound characters that are fighting them, even if defeated, depending on what combination of monsters/heroes are fighting.


In addition, if not enough force is applied to each monster to kill it, then the unkilled monsters will cause additional wounds to random good heroes before they are defeated.
Each HP the monster has left, allows it to make one attack. Most monsters will do 1 damamge per attack, but some may also do special effects. If a player suffers too many wounds during combat,bringing them to 0HP, they are killed.

Thus, if the party becomes too weak, they may die to the encounters they face, and not the killers.

The killers have a choice of being helpful in battle and thus appearing good, or betraying the heroes and using 'special' abilities which do not actually help in defeating the monsters, causing extra hero damage, at the risk of being found out as evil.

In general, players fighting monsters in melee combat will suffer some damage from the battle. Unless your role says otherwise, fighting in melee combat will cause you to suffer 1 wound. If lots of excess force is used to defeat the monsters, in excess of what is needed, then this might mean that more people that were needed fought in melee combat and thus some needlessly took damage. Or people might have spent more MP than was needed.

After the battle, it will be announced how the battle went, in flavor text. For example, if a troll was not met with sufficient force, and went on a rampage injuring players for extra damage, this would be described in the flavor. Flavor text MAY describe the manner in which monsters are defeated, or it might not. For example, someone casts a fireball at a troll. This might be in the combat description or it might not. So the absence of it in the description does not mean that it did not occur. So if a person claims that they were going to do some special thing to kill a monster, and it isnt in the text, then they may or may not have been lying. But if it is in the text, they were probably telling the truth. It will not be said who exactly caused the effect to occur, but it could possibly be deduced.

Treasure

Monsters will give out treasure to those who fight them. Treasure rewards will be based on the size of the monster and the proportion of the damage dealt to defeat them. Evil heroes recieve treasure as well for the damage they do to the monsters. Players who do not participate in defeating the monsters recieve no treasure. Some treasure is in the form of Gold, which allows making purchases at night, while some is in the form of items, which either give special powers, or provide one use effects, like a healing potion or an attack spell.
If the force to defeat certain monsters is insufficient and they cause extra wounds to the heroes, the heroes recieving thsoe extra wounds will be considered to have defeated them and will gain parts of the treasure.

Magic Points and Health Points

Each player begins the game with a certain number of magic and health points, based on their character. Wounds from combat reduce health, and special abilities used in combat or for night powers consume magic points. If a player runs out of magic points, they cant use those abilities. If you run out of health points, you die. Some effects can restore health or magic points. Health may not be restored to greater than its starting value. Magic points MAY be raised to greater than their starting value.

Lynch

In addition to the combat, players vote for a lynch target, trying to kill the evil heroes who are adventuring with them.
This works in the standard way, and the tiebreaker is longest held vote.

A lynched player is reduced to 0 health, and thus dies.

Lynch time is 7pm BGG.

Night Kills

Some evil roles have the power to kill during the night. A night kill will usually reduce a hero to 0 health, however some protection abilities will instead cause the attack to cause a certain amount of damage instead.

Travel

Each day, the party will travel around the map of the castle, and one of the players, the party leader for the day, will decide which region to move to next. The party leader is determined at random, however, the more damamge that a player dealt to monsters during the combat, greatly increases their chance of being leader the next day. Every time you double the damage you deal, you multiply your chance of being party leader by 4. On the first day, there is a random party leader, who may be evil. A party leader may be party leader again in the future. In addition, the party leader for the day will get all of the items and gold of players who died the night before, or in combat the day before


The Ghost World

In addition to the normal world, the castle of darkness also exists simultaneously in the ghost world, and is a portal between the two worlds. Some characters have the ability to enter the ghost world at night. Those who do may encounter monsters (whose combat will be resolved automatically) and/or find treasure there. In addition, they will not be able to be killed in the night if they enter the ghost world, however, other creatures may lurk in this world that might kill them in the night if they enter...


In addition, some night view powers may be foiled by their target being in the ghost world. For example, a seer-like role viewing a player might get no result if their target was in the ghost world. There might be other view-canceling powers, and the seer-like player will not know what caused their view to fail, only that it failed to give any information.
PMs

Each player may send 1 PM per day to each other player, during the daytime. Evil killer players may PM each other any amount at any time. The non-player may also send 1 PM a day to each player and recieve 1 from each player.

CC the moderator on all PMs.

Game End

The game ends in victory for the good heroes if all evil players are dead, or in victory for the evil team if all good heroes are dead.

Roles

Roles will be standard classes of fantasy heroes or evil character. Like fighter, wizard(necromancer), cleric, paladin, etc. Think D&D. However, an exact role list will not be given. If there are duplicate role names, they will be uncommon.
Any role that is a basic 3rd edition D&D character class, is good. That means sorcerer is good, and any wizard specialist class is good, even necromancer. Other roles (some are prestige classes) MAY be good. Not all standard D&D character classes are represented. The evil team has been told a couple of classes that are NOT in the game, so they can claim them. These could be anything, they could even be something as simple as 'fighter' or 'cleric'.

There are exactly 4 evil roles and 13 good roles. In addition, there is one 'non-player' playing in the game who may post and has actions and victory conditions, but does not vote, cant fight in combat, and cant be lynched. This non player will play an important part in the game, so dont think it wont take any time, it'll be like playing in a werewolf game. Xandryyteis the non player. You may PM xandryyte 1 time per day, and she can PM you 1 time per day. However, that doesnt mean you should trust her at all. She may or may not be on your team, or anyone's team.


Absolutely none of the information in the rules or in your role PM will be a lie, and none of it will be meant to mislead you.

Syntax of votes and combat:

To vote to lynch a player, do

Vote playername in bold. No editing vote posts.

To commit to fighting a monster, do

Fight (monster)

You may change this. It becomes fixed at lynch time,

To use a special abilitiy on a monster or group of monsters, do

Special (monster or set of monsters)

Where Special is the wod special, not the name of the ability. Then PM me the ability you wish to use. This allows people to hide the fact that they are not actually fighting, by doing 'special' on monsters.

You may make whatever claims you want about what the special ability is.

Is it permissable to post a Special () but do nothing?
