Hey all,

Here are our top games that we love and see hitting the table.

Belfort
Castles of Burgundy
Terra Mystica
Village
Carson City
Lords of Waterdeep
King of Tokyo

As you can see, all of them are medium to med-heavy, except for the bottom two which are lighter, and we love.

I want to find a game that has a little meat on it, but isn't as brain burny as the top 5, and maybe somewhere in between the bottom two.

Any recommendations are appreciated!

I was thinking about Takenoko...thoughts? (and we have Kingdom builder which is nice but only my gf and I like it..my group isn't crazy about it)

It doesn't have to be a Euro, but we do like that style lately. I'm really not a fan of coops because of the alpha player syndrome with a couple of our players.

So in summation, we are looking for something medium-light and a game that doesn't have too much take that or blocking (some is ok). I just want a game that has some depth that isn't so nerve wracking all the time!

my group love Dixit. Its very simple, and it works on different thinking than normal games so it doesnt feel like a brainburner

7 Wonders is great, light fun. So is Homesteaders (though that may be more light-mediumish). 1775 is a really good one for area control. Play is on teams, though, and that may not go over well with your Alpha Players, but you never know.

And I'll second the recommendation for Stone Age or Ticket to Ride.

Can't help with Takenoko as I've not played it.

Three recommendations.

Takenoko

My wifes favorite game and a game I really enjoy too. She absolutely loves this game and the different mechanics work beautifully together. The game is gorgeous too. This game works well for all age groups and is one of those games, like Ticket to Ride, that will never get old for me and is our "Monopoly" before we knew better. It's a solid addition to any collection.

Citadels

Role selection, some stab you in the back, easy to start playing, some tough decisions. Easy to sit around the table and relax while playing and talking simultaneously. It's a cheap game that works as a filler to orders.

Kingsburg

Some dice chucking, some worker placement. This easy to play game gets amped up with the expansion in replay-ability too.

Yedo plays very similarly to Lords of Waterdeep, but is heavier and better game in my opinion.

Could this be it? The moment I recommend Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre unironically?

Another vote for Ninjato. Since getting it my wife and I have not even considered going back to Lords of Waterdeep. It's an underrated game IMO-

Lancaster is great fun. Have you tried Pandemic? If you're into the whole network building thing I'd definitely go for Power Grid instead of Ticket to Ride. Much more to it. El Grande is also a great classic.

Hmm, a medium to heavy weight game that's lighter than Castles of Burgundy is throwing me a bit. I think CoB has pretty light decisions.

Tzolk'in is what I wanted to recommend, not sure if it fits. There's definitely a lot of planning required, but the moves are simple, you just always have to be planning ahead a few turns, I think the board design makes this easier than most.

I'll also +1 Alien Frontiers, though it's much heavier on blocking with a little take that.

First thing that popped into my mind when you said this...for some reason was...

Not exactly like any of those that you mention above, but it is very light and if you guys enjoy King of Tokyo then this might be something worth taking a look at.
