I'm looking for a game for my game group that us able to scratch that same Twilight Imperium itch without the same length. Preferably a "game night" game and not a weekend game. Basically, TI3's depth without length. Eclipse failed to scratch that itch for me (too economic). I've heard good things about Exodus: Proxima Centauri and Space Empires 4x, but have never played them myself. I'm also up for games of totally different theme, but would also fulfill this itch of mine. Any suggestions?

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

Try Galactic Emperor.

Maybe Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game or Clash of Cultures.

To take a different angle on things: You won't.

TI3 feels like it does precisely because it is a massive juggernaut that takes time and investment. The same thing that makes it hard to play often(length) lends itself to the unique flavor of the game. You can find other civ builders out there sure, and plenty that are shorter, but you will find while playing them that either they just don't feel the same(eclipse) or they feel a bit shallow and rushed(a few others I've played). You can hunt for civ builders, but you need to give up on finding a 'shorter' TI3 I think, because short wouldn't feel like TI3.
