I'm not sure how to interpret the first part of the Adaptive Cloaking Device alien technology (card 30).

Is the bonus mentioned on the card in addition to the usual +1 mentioned in the rules?

The card reads
Quote:
If your enemy does not have Scanners equal or greater to your Cloaking, your Rs fire with a +2 in the first round. [...]

And the rules from the base game say
Quote:
Attack Advantage: In combat, Cloaked Raiders have a Class rating of A and during the first firing round (only) have their Attack Strength increased by +1. [...]

A total of +3 (with an A rating!) in the first round seems rather strong, but the card text seems to imply exactly this.

The way I read the text, the most natural interpretation is that the +2 is instead of the +1.

David is correct.

Thanks for the quick answers!
That certainly brings the card more in line with the others.

Should it work with cruisers, DD and scouts for cloaking geniuses?

No.

The rule is as follows:

"30. Adaptive Cloaking Device: If your enemy does not have Scanners equal to or greater than your Cloaking, your Rs fire with a +2 to their Attack Strength in the 1st Round. If they do have Scanners equal to your Cloaking then your Cloak is nullified, but in the 1st Round they fire as A, 2nd Round as B, 3rd Round as C, 4th & later as D. This card only impact Rs, even if you are also Cloaking Geniuses. Reveal when a ship with Cloaking is present in combat."

Which states that Adaptive Cloaking only impacts Rs.

Oh, thanks, I forgot that the effects were usually more detailed in the rulebook.
