I have a list that I've used a few times to great success, but I'm looking to make it better. I have the HWK coming in the mail and I want to replace the Y-Wing in my list with it. I just need some help rounding out the last 9 points on the list.

Ibtisam is staying the same so please don't try to convince me to use HLC. I've had that conversation too much. I realize people like it but that's not what I'm going for on this list.

Maybe 'expert handling' on Wedge? You can shake off TL's and you have the R2 Astromech to lose the stress...? Of course only if shaking off TL's is necessary in your 'meta'.

I like the idea for Wedge. Not so sure about Saboteur though, it would be great for going against large ships, but against small ships and having to be in range 1 seems like few and far between. Maybe I'm wrong...

...and I'm already warming up to Saboteur, but still wanting the Moldy Crow upgrade so I can have a stash of focus so I'm not worried about using Saboteur and not getting one. So that takes PTL and Engine Upgrade for Wedge off the table. What to do with the final 4? Shield Upgrade on Wedge or Squad Leader and something else for other 2?

You're not wrong; Saboteur is a bad idea.

Personally, I'd spend those points on transforming Roark into Kyle (Kyle + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow + Ions is 32) or Jan (33 with Squad Leader, Nien, and Ions). The reason is that with Wedge and Ibtisam you already have pretty good PS, so I think you'll get more out of the extra offense provided by the other HWK pilots than you will from Roark.

Good thoughts...why am I having so much fun with a ship I don't like at all? GG Fantasy Flight.

One of my big issues has been getting Ibtisam actions while he has his stress. Squad leader isnt going to do that for me so maybe having Kyle would be a good idea since it's not an action. And range 1-3 is hard not to do. Not too excited about Jan at the moment. I'd rather have the focus happy Kyle then an extra die. Maybe my math is off and the extra is way better.

The idea of Saboteur was solely from I couldn't see what Roark would spend his focus on if he was stockpiling it.

Kyle makes a ton more sense, and I like the proposed build you came up with.

I like Engine Upgrade on Wedge for the late game (so he can evade enemy arcs). I'd consider upgrading his astromech to R2-D2, and possibly giving him Swarm Tactics. That way, you can have Roark make Wedge a PS12, then pass PS12 to Ibtisam! (or you could even downgrade Ibtisam to a Blue Squadron and slap some more upgrades on it, like Heavy Laser Cannon)...

So it might look something like this:

Roark Garnet + Ion Cannon Turret (24)
Wedge Antilles + R2-D2 + Swarm Tactics + Engine Upgrade (39)
Blue Squadron Pilot + Heavy Laser Cannon + Fire Control System (31)

Consider spending the other 6 points on your choice of (a) Chewbacca for Roark; (b) Advanced Proton Torpedoes for Wedge (if you're patient enough to save a Target Lock for when you can also Focus); (c) Upgrading Blue Squad to Ibtisam and swapping FCS for Advanced Sensors (since TL is somewhat wasted on Ibtisam); (d) putting an Engine Upgrade on Roark (Boost makes it a lot easy to turn a HWK-290 around).

That could be good! I may be meta gaming a bit too much, but I'll be playing this list against my own named TIE list (Vader+SquadLeader, Howlrunner, Backstabber, Mauler, Alpha Interceptor) tonight, played by a friend who plays but doesn't buy. Might need the extra pilot skill to get some key hits before those TIEs. Gonna have my work cut out for me with 3 ships vs 5. Should be fun. Will definitely put up a session report tomorrow.

In general, action > extra die, but extra die + action > multiple actions. I'm not sure where Ibtisam's reroll puts things, but it's at least an interesting middle ground. But I like your revised list, in any case.

Adrenaline Rush is nice for Wedge, too, since K-turning behind someone and attacking with Target Lock is a pretty strong trick. And I don't think you really care about initiative if you're already on PS 9/6/6.
